We had moved six years ago so do they have a right to do this?
So you moved six years ago and did not inform Argos of your change of address, now it is their fault for delivering to your old address?

What has your wife's profession got to do with this?

Because the OP is new they won't be aware that in Sympathy Top Trumps the winning card is fluffy kittens, followed closely by small children.
  • What about nuns? Or any combination thereof?

I don't think this iss right under the general data protection regulations Argos have not made any effort to check data.

Which according to the GDPR, is fine.
In some cases it is reasonable to rely on the individual to tell you when their personal data has changed, such as when they change address or other contact details. It may be sensible to periodically ask individuals to update their own details, but you do not need to take extreme measures to ensure your records are up to date, unless there is a corresponding privacy risk which justifies this.

Would the OP have a better claim against Argos if the wrongly delivered item was indeed a large basket of very fluffy kittens?

When you move house you must remove old addresses from the like of Argos/Amazon/Ebay etc. Are saying that this was done and the old addresses just reappeared? If that's the case then I guess there is mitigation, but most of these systems require you to confirm the address at least once. If possible just contact the neighbour, if you can return under distance selling then arrange for a return but you'll need to get the neighbour on board. It really depends on the amount we are talking about, sometimes it's just easier to let it go

I ordered a large item from Argos the other week and specified a delivery day.

I was sent an email clearly showing the delivery address and delivery times, and also contact details for any queries about the order.

On the day I received a phone call from the driver to let me know they would be delivering to me within the next hour.

I would recommend this excellent service, and they were cheaper than Amazon on this occasion.

    Yes exactly same here.

Would suspect "wife" did not get that as they probably have not notified argos of any changed email address as well?:(

I really like Argos. Their same day delivery service is great and always delivered within a few hours.

Seems to me they did exactly as instructed and delivered to the address provided. The fault lays at your wifes door I'm afraid, and not the parcel :)

    argos refuse a refund.

I don't think this iss right under the general data protection regulations Argos have not made any effort to check data. We had moved six years ago so do they have a right to do this? Is there any way we can get back the £250 pounds?

I would warn all other users about this retention of data

I think we have all been a little hard on the op? They asked for advice? And it is a simple question.

    So perhaps this will help?

Op have taken the liberty to modify your post slightly as I believe you will get more appropriate and helpful responses.

My Wife who is an ex Nun cares for two elderly persons with dementia, she tried to place an order in Argos home delivery. Without noticing she used our old address.

Goods were delivered to that address but no one at home and left with a neighbour.

    Argos are refusing to refund.

I know this is right under the general data protection regulations and Argos do not need to check data. We had moved six years ago so do they every right to do this. As we did not amend details.

Is there any way we can get back the £250 pounds?

It was for a kitten den so our 4 very small children could play with our new family of 6 fluffy adorable kittens:)

I would like to warn all other users about letting your wife ordering items without doing such basic checks as checking the delivery address.
