Hi
i am not sure if this should be on this thread or the BR thread so sorry if i have posted in the wrong bit!
I am cleaning up my credit file and there is a Payday UK loan with an incorrect default date showing on it and i don't know how to get it amended. I have tried contacting BW legal but the account was closed and settled before they took over. Also they said without my original creditors ref no they can't help. All i have is the last 4 digits off the listing on my credit file as it was 2013 when i took it out and i i dont have the paperwork.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get this sorted? I am hoping to have a clean record by January and this will be the only stain (as long as the other companies update their records as pormued several times now!) It will be an extra 4 months to be cleared.
Thanks

I wouldn't waste the effort. It is now so far in the past it will have little to no effect on you if you've maintained a good record since then. If you haven't then there will be things since then that will be affecting you more than this is.
It is possible to get it sorted and you can get the creditors reference from the original lender by submitting a subject access request to the original lender which may attract a fee. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Well i am hoping to try for a mortgage soon - maybe in January once the 6 years has gone but maybe sooner with skipton or nationwide depending on the house availability. It will still show on my report as x months since bad payment when it should have dropped off?
It is currently showing 60 months since last payment problem and it should be 64. I have ran excellent records since with a credit builder card paid off in full every month without fail. My credit rating fluctuates dropping by 15 - 30 points and occasionally coming back up by the same amount depending on who i check even though my spending has remained consistent. I was told if i am a 3/5 on noddle i would be considered but a 2 is no chance. i am hoping a clean up will keep me in 3 zone longer than one month!
I have been told that the slightest thing might knock you back..0 -

Who told you this nonsense? I hope it wasn't a mortgage adviser. If it was, please, please do not use them!
Credit 'scores' are just a marketing gimmick and have no bearing on whether you will get a mortgage or not.
It's your credit history that counts, nothing more nothing less.
As for your default, agree with previous poster that it's far too late in the day to do anything about it now. Just wait for it to drop off and then start house hunting/applying for a mortgage.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. It will disapear from your file sometime this year anyway, as soon as it hits the 6 year aniversary.
By the time you had completed a full written complaint, the entry will probebly have already gone anyway, so i wouldnt bother to be honest, just wait till it drops off naturally.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. It won’t drop off until 27/4/20 but it should actually go January.
Most posts Re credit troubles say that you should wait until all payments have dropped off and I don’t want to have to wait an extra 4 months that shouldn’t be there. I know in the grand scheme of things it isn’t a long time but I don’t want to see a property that I miss out on because I can’t risk applying for a mortgage with the blemish still on there..0 -
Sign up to Noddle(callcredit), MSE(experian) and Clearscore(equifax) and raise a dispute on the account in question with the details of the incorrect default date etc.
You should receive a response in 28 days.
Each time I have done this my issue has been resolved and the errors removed/corrected relatively quickly. It is worth a try.0 -

Ok now we have the vital bit of information that should have been included in the first post.
Either contact the creditor directly or raise a dispute with each of the CRA’s0
