one poached egg is too much. yuck!
I suppose someone has to do the "one egg is un oeuf" gag somewhere in this thread.
But yes, the term "unlimited" really has no meaning in the advertising context anymore, and it really makes that breakfast seem quite expensive.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0 -

We sometimes go to our local Beefeater for breakfast.
Unlimited (really) continental breakfast (including drinks) with a made to order cooked breakfast for £9.50. 2 of each item seems to be a 'limit'on the cooked breakfast, but I have never asked for more as its plenty with the buffet.
however the added benefit of kids eat free. So really £4.25 each when I go with my son.
also a kid is defined as under 16.0 -
On the menu at my local Harvester (taken from online) it simply says the following "CREATE YOUR PERFECT BREAKFAST FROM THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS. HAVE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT, IT’S UNLIMITED..." No asterix or terms mentioned, so I agree that it is misleading and feel that the OP's complaint is valid.0

FWiW, here's a link to a Breakfast Menu on Harvester's website: https://www.harvester.co.uk/content/dam/harvester/pdf/dn17/breakfast-menu-eng-pb4.pdf
I think a reasonable person reading that menu would not expect to be limited to 3 eggs (or even 4 eggs).
In legal terms, the contract was probably formed when the waiter accepted the order - so unless the waiter mentioned the egg limit (or there were other clear signs stating an egg limit) before accepting the order - then it sounds like the restaurant breached the contract.
But, realistically, people breach minor contracts like this all the time - and it's not really feasible to do much about it.0 -
Having read the last 2 posts and viewed the menu, I think Harvester are wrong.
If they are saying this:Evangelion wrote: »They advised the menu had changed and there are now limits on what can be ordered (5 bacon, 4 sausages etc) but if you wanted to order another one you’re more than welcome to order another ‘batch’ for £9.49!
OP
you can either decide you're OK with ordering 3 eggs or you can pursue this with Harvester and tell them if they are going to limit any item then their menu and all advertising bumph should state that.
You could complain to Trading Standards (via CAB) if you feel strongly enough about it.0 -
I'd suggest the Advertising Standards Authority might be one option for a complaint.

Totally agree - particularly as they have included a footnote to state that you can only have one steak. If they can add a note explaining the limit on that item then they could/ should have done so for the rest.
If would be interesting to find out if the limits the OP was informed of are applied across the Group, or whether individual branches are imposing their own rules.0 -

It's unlimited. All of it, even the cooked breakfast items. We've been asked, after we've eaten our cooked breakfasts, if we want any more!
If you really wanted to, you could sit there from 6.30am to 10.30am eating yourself [STRIKE]silly[/STRIKE] sick.
I've seen a customer order so much cooked breakfast that it had to be brought out on a serving tray instead of a plate. I'm not kidding, he must have ordered seven or eight of each item, from bacon to black pudding. I have no idea how he managed to eat it all. Just thinking about it makes me feel queasy.
And then you get the ones who fill up their rucksacks with the continental items and jams . . . I saw a woman last week who brought a heaped bowlful of jam/marmalade pots back to her table, wrapped it up in a napkin and shoved it in her handbag. In front of the staff who didn't say a work to her about it. Her handbag was twice its original size when she left  No wonder there's never any jam left there.0 -
Several years ago I had an unlimited breakfast in Harvester.
I think I wanted three eggs, but was told I could only have two. Apparently there were limits as to how much they'd put on a plate. But I was told that, when I'd finished, I could just order another round. I guess it reduces waste from those with eyes bigger than their bellies.
Were Harvester actually limiting the amount of food they'd serve the OP, or just limiting what they'd dish out in one go...?0
