What washing detergent do you use?

I use Tesco's own bio-powder, and usually add washing soda crystals to make it last longer (mix in bowl and re-box). Used to use at 40degrees, now usually at 30 degrees. Clean and fresh-smelling clothes. Don't use fabric conditioner.Resolution:

I use Asda own brand powder. Think it's £1.75 for 3k. Also used own brand green or pink concentrated fabric softener. Both do what it says on the tin. All powders and fabric softeners are the same.....just different additives and a hiked up price.Lightbulb moment 2/1/07First Direct £2500 loan

thanks jen for this tip, will try it!
do soda crystals actually work for washing though? have never used them
I live in a really hard water area and by using a scoop of soda crystals I can then get away with using less than half of the usual amount of detergent.
At the minute I'm using persil liquid as it was on offer last time I was at tescos. Normally I use the Lidl's own brand stuff with Lidl's own brand softner in the white bottle. It smells vile in the bottle, but fantastic when it's on the clothes.

I don't skimp on laundry products, I love it all to smell nice.
I get the Aerial Febreeze tablets for sheets & towels.
I get Aerial Colour liquid tabs for darks & colours.
I get Fairy tablets for woolens
I get Aerial bio tablets for whites (but I may try Daz for these, as another post above was raving about it).
I get the really nice comfort softner, the one with the almond or jojoba oils in.
And lastly I get Vapouress to iron it with!!!!
Kime, you are officially a Detergent Junkie.

I use maxitrat tablets from lidls, colour ones for colours and normal ones for whites. I only use 1 instead of the recommended 2Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

I only buy Ariel bio and colour tablets. We used to use liquitabs but stopped after reading about the recommendations on UK whitegoods forums to use powder.
We did try Tesco own brand versions but they smell of nothing, same with Fairy big box powder from Costco. Even stuff washed hot smelled of nowt!
I am pretty sensitive to some perfumes and most of the supermarket ones bring me out in horrible wheals so we stick with what we know works. Woke up one morning after sleeping in my freshly washed bed (Tesco brand powder) and my mouth was swollen to twice the size :eek:0 -
Thanks to this site I now use soap nuts with a bit of soda crystals for washing colours and for whites I'm still on the same large box of Ariel i bought last april! :j
(There's only two of us but I have to wash towels more often than I'd like due to DH thinking he needs a new bath sheet every day even to only dry his face! tried hiding the bath sheets but he found them  )
For the whites I only use about a third of the recomended amount of powder, also i no longer use fabric softener I use white vinegar, find the clothes are softer with vinegar than with fabric softener (and I'm told it does the same job as calgon in your machine, bonus :j ).0 -
Persil non bio powder is the only one that suits DH and DS2's sensitive skin. I only use half or less than they tell you for the wash as I hate the smell of any detergent on my clothes. Outdoor drying is the only smell I like.
I get sensitive conditioner and water it down so much it's like the magic porridge pot, the more I use the fuller the bottle gets.
I can go into people's houses and tell that they're using bold (I'm so sensitive) and sometimes the smell in a house is so strong it makes me want to heave! can be a problem!
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

I hear you on this one! I got a terrible rash on the backs of my arms once when a friend had washed her cushion covers in it!0 -
The cheapest detergent i have found is to use the Lidl colour safe liquid, £3 for 48 washes, and when i bought it it was on BOGOF, and i always use less than they say! Very neutral smell.
I use the pink/white "Adritt" Lidl fabric softener, need hardly any of it but its great.
However, i do really miss the smell of the purple bold tablets i used to use, and i really like the idea of mixing soda crystals to make it go further... is this a good idea for colours?0
