New Gearbox one month out of warranty
My Hyundai Santa Fe is one month out of warranty and has done just over 60,000 miles. I have just been told it is highly likely that it needs a new gearbox and another gearbox related part that will total £5000. Absolutely gutted! Should Hyundai be paying for this?

You have already stated that the car it is out of warranty so no, the manufacturer is not obligated to pick up the bill.
Some manufacturers might make a contribution on a goodwill basis but have no experience with Hyundai. Why has the gearbox failed?0 -
No idea why it has failed, it seemed to be struggling to change up from 2nd to 3rd gear and this is the outcome of it being looked at.0

If it has been serviced 100% by the book you may get some goodwill but that will be totally at the discretion of the dealer.
To answer your question, no, Hyundai shouldn't be paying for this.
Good luck with it.0 -
It has full service history with Hyundai and I’m waiting to here about a goodwill gesture. I’ve only owned the car just over a year and a half but I find it amazing that a new gearbox is needed considering the mileage it has done.0

Did you buy it from a dealer or privately?
Under the Consumer Rights Act you have some rights with the dealer. If it was private you can only really hope that Hyundai are feeling generous.0 -

So you don't know how it was driven / used before you purchased it and we don't know at all?0 -
It depends how it’s been driven. 60,000 miles with a lot in city stop-start driving could easily kill a clutch and gearbox, as could poor driving technique generally. You don’t know how abused the car was before you got it.0

Worth a try with Hyundai I would have thought, although perhaps you should have bought a Kia and got the 7 year warranty instead of Hyundai's paltry 5!0

Of course with most other brands it would be 2 years out of warranty by now and you would have no chance of a contribution. Ask Hyundai UK nicely, you have nothing to lose.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

If the OP has had the car longer than 6 months and he bought it from a dealer, his rights under the CRA are virtually nil.0
