Sorry re  the lovely Sybil, I  still miss my cats after more than a decade but time does indeed help..
Have you tried doing the 'airtime rewards' app to at least get money off your mobile?
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Paid off another £10.41 on the mortgage thanks to survey pay outs; mortgage now £23,145.  I'm registered on a longer survey with Prolific so fingers crossed at some point in the future there maybe a £20 payout there.  Wage slips are on the system although payday isn't until Thursday.  Back pay included which will round the mortgage down to under £23,000!

    You're doing great, hetty!

Silly question, so i apologise in advance but with it being just you and your son, are you claiming everything you can to help from the government? x

Hi Jessy, yes I think I’m getting everything.  I get child benefit, a very small amount of universal credit, I won’t get any in November due to the back pay from the pay rise.  It varies month on month and mine is based on what I earn from the 18th of the month to the following 17th of the month.  I’ve just been awarded DLA until May 2026 based on my son’s EHCP and the additional caring needs I have to provide for him.  I can also sometimes get things through the council based on his additional learning needs.  So I’ve got free transport to and from school until Christmas and I also got some money from them to fund some 1:1 swimming lessons.  His anxiety is higher than it used to be and he takes it out on me ☹️.  We have just walked through York from the theatre to the car park at 10:15 and he was hyper vigilant and then wouldn’t go to bed even though he could barely keep his eyes open.  He said he was stressed out and scared resulting in him being clingy so it’s pretty exhausting most of the time.  Still Hairspray was brilliant!

It was payday yesterday for me so I overpaid the pay rise back pay amount to the mortgage as a starter for the month.  Mortgage is now under the £23k mark and stands at £22,990.  My MFiT challenge shows a total payment off the mortgage since January 2022 of £17,355 and I’m at 68% if the target I set myself.  On holiday today as family are coming for the weekend so lots planned.  Today we are going to Yorkshire Sculpture Park which I’m looking forward to, my 11 year old boy not so much 🤣

  • That's amazing progress!

Good luck with the end game, and well done on the ECHP funding. We are in the final stages of diagnosis here - the constant fight to get everything is tiring.

Well done on pushing through to claim the help you need for the two of you. You are doing great. Don't beat yourself up about not hitting arbitrary dates.

You could investigate whether a long 0% CC eg 21 months on purchases would enable you to redirect more £ to your mortgage without it costing you anything. Or similar solutions.  You can check what you'd be eligible for on the free credit club here.

@Viking_mfw good luck!  Yes the fight is real and exhausting.  My son started secondary in September so we are still trying to get his proper timetable sorted with additional lessons for math and English.  They will soon learn I’m like a dog with a bone, I’m not giving it up
