The Special K diet should only be followed for two weeks as a jump start to a healthier way of eating.

It's not nutritionally sound to do it for any longer than that.

We're not allowed to give out medical advice on here, but advising you to eat more is surely not quite medical?

http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/bmr.html will show you how many calories you need to have as a minimum so you don't waste(consume) valuable muscle (which burns calories for you)

If you burn an extra 5-- to 600 at the gym then you need to replace this too.

Been there done that with diets- they wreck your metabolism in the long term, but it's up to you to make sure you know that. Missing periods is a sure sign your body is not in balance.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone :) I know I should probably be eating more but I just find it hard.

Thank you all for caring. I appreciate the advice.

    hiya,

I have to agree with the others. I was told that actually your body NEEDS about 1200 calories a day JUST to do the basics (breathing etc) and so really you should be eating more than this.

You sound worried, have you thought about talking to a nutritionist at all? they may be able to help..
How long have you been following this diet?
  • I am worried that it might be my own fault for messing up my monthly cycle :(

I haven't spoken to anyone about my diet. I've been on this diet since August.

aaww :grouphug: dont go worrying yourself too much, maybe it would be a good idea to ask at your gp surgery if you can speak to a dietician about your diet/lifestyle? The special k type diets are realy meant as a kick start to your diet for the first two weeks, and no longer. So this could well be the cause of your cycle being a bit messed up, along with stress. It can easily be sorted out, so thers no need to be upset over it.

You need to take good care of yourself :o let us know how you get on!

...other than the obvious of being pregnant, what can be the cause of missing a period and when should you make an appointment with your GP?

Stress! i've been a year now and haven't visited the doctor as this is utter bliss!:D

You might be answering your own questions then...... Is it possible to take a chill pill maybe once a specific problem has been sorted etc etc. Like just take a nice weekend and do.................FCUK ALL! ha ha!

Your body is probably trying to say "Gimmie a break" so maybe you should work in a little me time..... Just work it around your life and whatevers going on.

OK what is done is done, but IMHO you really shouldnt have been on this diet for this long, it is only a suggestion that you do it for 2weeks!!!!!! There are reasons for this! Hunni, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop this!
