My sister had this and went to the doctors and they just said not to worry, it happens sometimes. The very next day, she came on. The worry of not having her period had stopped it from coming and as soon as the doctor put her mind at ease, it was like a release!!

I then missed a period next month......but I am pregnant!!
Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

  • Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it :)

Yeah you're right, things have been a little stressful lately.

I have been on a diet since August (Special K diet) and exercising a lot more so maybe that has affected my cycle.

I hope it's not early menopause

Could you be anaemic? That can affect whether or not you have periods as well.

  • You said its now 3 weeks late. If you run an average cycle of the 28 days I expect it will come on as it would had you never of missed one. If you miss the next period, say a week or so after you would have normally expected it then I'd pop along to your doctors.

Many things can cause a missed period. Most of which are really nothing at all to worry about. From one missed period I wouldn't even go down the thoughts of early menopause or any other illness. To miss one period once in a while is "normal".
If your periods vanish for any amount of time after say 1-2 missed its time to see the doctor.
Some medications can cause your periods to go missing too. Not just the pill.
Honestly don't worry. The more you panic and worry the longer it will probably be before it gets back in sync again.

    Hey!

Im another who agrees that stress/worrying does/can affect your cycle (as an example mine was 5 days late this month, down to stress)...so id have a nice long soak in the bath,relax... etc and im sure your period will appear soon. Try not to be too concerned yet.

    Big hugs,

    keely.

Yup, certainly could do! I know you're not a teenager, but there's quite a concern that teenage girls doing serious training and dieting (eg ballet school, gymnast) just don't get periods at all. Just wonder if the Special K diet is enough calories for all the exercise?

  • Thank you all for being reassuring.

I guess anaemia is a possibility.

I am going to relax and try not to worry about being late.

You could have a point there Sue. I have just over 100 cal. for breakfast (30g cereal), the same for lunch and then an evening meal. I easily burn 500-600 cal at the gym.

 That really does sound a bit less than you need. I'm no expert - is there still an "I wanna ... lose weight" support group? There's a SW consultant over there who explains how if you don't eat ENOUGH it hampers your weight loss - and that's not a new theory either. Your GP could check you out for anaemia too, sounds like it would be a good plan, because that's not good for you and I think you need to look after yourself ...

I used to be late every month unless I was on the pill. I was irregular too which was a mega pain trying to plan anything, as my period would often arrive on a special day. I would have PMS for the time I was late which was horrible too. Until I had it all removed, my life was hellish and dominated by my hormones.

Years later I was diagnosed as having severe endometriosis which really upset my innards and had to have major surgery to correct.

So mine was down to a severe hormone imbalance.
    An average day in my life:hello: :eek::mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :p :eek::mad: :beer:

  • Your daily calorie intake sounds very low. A diet should NEVER be lower than 1000kcals a day. Even 1000 in most cases is too low.

So yes your kcal intake could be behind the missed period.

In the respects of trying to lose weight and dieting reducing your calories that low could actually make losing weight, and certainly maintaining the weight loss a lot harder. Your body knows when its being starved so it conserves the few kcals your eating by slowing down your metabolism.
