...other than the obvious of being pregnant, what can be the cause of missing a period and when should you make an appointment with your GP?

This can be caused by several things, If you are sure you are not pregnant , it can be caused by hormone imbalances, sudden or severe weightloss and sometimes it happens naturally. Generally I wouldn't say it's necessary to see your GP unless you are unduly worried by it. If it continues then I would suggest speaking to GP.Weight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j0

Also, some infections, Chlamydia in particular.
julesgr, I just misread your signature - I thought it said that your current weight is 37.5lb! Well done on the loss, that is fantastic! xGone ... or have I?0 -
If you are taking an oral contraceptive, these can sometimes mess up periods, as the period becomes a chemically induced bleed.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

I know it's a bit personal but how old are you? Your age can affect periods e.g. teens and middle ages! Also are you trying to get pregnant? I know when I was I often skipped periods which I think was due to the stress of trying and hoping.1% challenge - £4018 - reduce by 100 payments of £41.0

Thanks for the advice so far

I haven't taken the pill for a few years but I know for sure there is no chance that I could be pregnant. My periods have always been fairly regular (give or take a few days) ever since I was in my teens but it's nearly 3 weeks late now.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

But life has been a bit stressful lately, hasn't it? Are you eating OK? Have a hug, and don't panic - try and think of missing the odd one as a bonus ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
