Given its impossible to watch any BBC channels on Sky Go how can watching live streaming Sky content which has nothing to do with the BBC result in requiring a BBC Licence.

As above, it just does - being based on law, not technology or common sense.

The Licence is a licence to receive TV broadcasts (TV channels). It doesn't matter how these channels are received, what technology is used to receive them, or in this context who the broadcaster is.

    Thanks all!

I think I see thinks a bit more clearly....

When she moves in she will stick to Netflix / Amazon until we see what kind of communication / response she gets from TV Licencing.

Sky Go is mobile so what is she watching other stuff on?
    Are you already covered?
A halls communal licence won’t cover your room. But you may be covered by your parents’ licence. If you think you are, please check that all of the following are true before telling us you don’t need one:

Your out-of-term address (parents’ address) is covered by a TV Licence
AND you only use TV receiving equipment that is powered solely by its own internal batteries
AND you have not connected it to an aerial or plugged it into the mains.

She's not a student, she's a fully fledged adult ( :rotfl:) moving into her own place.

She will be using a Fire TV hooked up to her TV to access Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Her TV will not be connected to an aerial or to a dish.

She will not be installing or using any BBC apps such as iPlayer.

Although Sky Go is mainly a mobile app it can also be used on some games consoles (i.e. Xbox) so can be used to watch Sky through a TV (which is what I had been contemplating setting up for her).

Using Sky Go through a console into a TV is a great way of effectively having "Sky multiroom" without paying for Sky multiroom!!

Just do not let the BBC, Capita & similar scum, try to bully you into buying a licence, when you do not need it.
    That is my strong advice.

Sky on your console is only available via Sky Go Extra, which may concur an extra monthly charge depending on what package you have.

The licence fee is to only receive bbc tv and radio services and doesn't mention other channels or services as per the licensing website.
Ignore that as it says on another part of the same site that it is to receive all live tv even tho they admit the money is only for bbc.

Actually a TV License is needed  to watch any live TV channel  or BBC iPlayer. But you don't need a TV License to watch BBC programs on other streaming services (such as Netflix) or to listen to the radio (even if it's a BBC radio station).
