Unfair charge to return lost dog

I've just checked out our local councils policy and it's pretty draconian.
It's £69.36 (no idea why the odd sum) plus £15 per day or part day kennel costs. They only accept cash (paid to the kennels used by the council) and you only have 7 days once it's been picked up to get it back, after that it belongs to the kennels who can sell it if they wish. If you don't pick it up by day 4 then they'll vaccinate it ready for possible rehoming, since you also have to pay all necessary vets fees I'm guessing the vaccination costs are added to your bill.
Glad mine are chipped for damn sure.0 -

I thought chips are mandatory now?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Personally, I would be delighted to pay only £100 to get a beloved dog home safe and sound, knowing it had been fed, watered, housed and well cared for, when I'd been careless enough to lose it in the first place.0

I'm so glad your pet dog was returned to you safe and sound.
Be thankful your beloved dog was not hurt and was fed and taken care of by the finder, warden, kennel staff and other kind souls.0 -
I have to say that £100 seems fantastic value, if my dog went missing it would be great to know that there is a system in place that would help me get him back (and so cheaply too, although for something that important it doesn't have to be cheap to be good, the priority would be to get him back, not the cost).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0

All the people saying how cheap this is, do please bear in mind that some people have a lot less money than you.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

"All" Really? The point people are making that in terms of value it's worth every penny. I would find it hard to find a spare £100 but if it meant finding my lost dog then I'd be living on noodles for the next month if necessary.0 -

Yes, Of course. That still doesn't mean that some people aren't worse off than you. They may already be living on noodles. You just don't know, so have some sympathy. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Being unable to afford something like this is something that should be considered before getting a pet. Plus OP has not said that they couldn't afford it, only that they didn't think it was value for money, most of us disagree and think that it is value for money for the service offered0
