Can I cancel sky and rejoin?

So I’m currently a Sky Broadband unlimited & TV customer, I pay a ridiculous £85 a month for this. Just today they announced fibre is finally ready for my area. From what it looks like I can’t get a good deal from sky unless I’m a new customer. Which seems a little unfair. I’m way out of my contract so there’s no problems with that. I was wondering if I cancelled my current package, do I have to send any equipment back and can I rejoin to take the sky Q and fibre package which is half the price? Even the sky fibre is £5 cheaper but 10x faster!

So if you cancel your current contract, how does that make you a new customer.
Can a previous customer become a new customer with the same address?

If you're out of minimum term for TV and/or BB with anybody then you're paying too much. Call them after reading the last 3 pages or so of the following to get an idea of what's available.

Best advice is have you tried phoning them ??? and tell them how you feel
You can haggle with them too
They should allow it but they may want you to pay a one off fee £50 to upgrade
but again you can haggle ..
and if they make you an offer say" i think about it .." and phone them up again little while later
they have also lost a lot of customers who were still in within their contract because they put the price up couple Quid and its their right to leave
all 03 numbers free like 0800 pending what provider you are

Not true at all. All it takes is a bit of work on your part. See the Sky TV Retentions (haggling deals) thread on the main forum - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5480644/sky-tv-retention-deals-post-your-haggling-successes

Yes you will have to threaten and be prepared to carry out the cancellation process but this is when you'll get a chance to haggle with the retentions team to get a better deal.

If they've been with Sky long enough (and signed up to the VIP deal) they could get free setup for fibre.

Sorry just to back up to this statement and to clarify.
    1. Who are "They" who made the announcement
    2. What type of Fibre is ready? Is it FTTP or FTTC

Answers to those questions may limit your choices.

Afaik Sky won't offer FttP. (with some rare exceptions) They have agree a deal with BT to take Fttp packages but have not made those live almost 6 months later.
  • The BT openreach website is where it says it’s available and the sky website says I can get 10X faster speeds with the fibre.

My brother is the account holder currently, he is outside of the contract so can he just cancel and I sign up in my name to take advantage of the new customer offers if I can renegotiate one with them?

yep you can - we cancelled ours in my name and reset up in my husbands. the only thing to be aware of is you might be without services between the two as there is no guarantee they can terminate the one and start the other the same day, as we found out.
