Long term Three customer...
I've been with Three now for over a decade, on various contracts. My last one was one which included unlimited data (plus a minutes and messages allowance that I wouldn't exceed) and a phone which was one generation removed from the latest model at the time for £20/month.
The minimum term ended in 2015, but I kept the same contract running until now because since I paid off the airtime plan, they didn't do unlimited data new contracts so cheaply anymore. Every time looked to upgrade with a new phone and the same package, they told me the monthly payment would have increased significantly - e.g. Samsung Note 9 is £58 p/m
Last contacted them a couple of weeks back to see what they would offer and they said they would offer me an upgrade to unlimited everything for the same monthly payment, and for me, it's no difference whether I have unlimited mins/messages or not as I have never exceeded them before.
They didn't say anything about tethering in the original deal, but another reason I have kept the SIM is because I can tether my laptop and use the unlimited data for browsing whilst out and about - I am not sure if there is any limit to this as I have never road tested to see how long until the tethering allowance runs out. Also, they have never RPI increased my monthly payment.
However, I have been with Three for a long time and would ideally like to get some sort of loyalty discount, but the only thing they offered me on the phone is the one available to even new customers at the same price as my monthly payment.
Am I already getting a deal that is too good to be true (unlimited data with tethering for £20) and so keep my mouth shut, or should I push them to reduce the price a bit based on my time as a customer? Hoping to put the money saved towards a new phone...

Three have been offering a £20/month SIM (with unlimited data, unlimited tethering, unlimited mins and texts), for several weeks.
Good luck haggling0 -
I have a sim only plan identical to yours, unlimited data (and tethering) and sufficient minutes and texts £20pn that I don’t exceed on a monthly basis.
I’ve found it such a good deal that I’ve no intention of upgrading and have been fortunate to have been gifted outdated iPhones from family members over the years which are still in working order.
It probably works out cheaper to purchase a phone separately and keep paying for that dealLBM September 2012Debt at LBM £10,573.00Current debt £3,250 (29/12/20)Current savings £4,950 (29/12/20)0 -
That’s pretty good I’m parking £25 for unlimited data but my tethering is capped to 20GB. No other network offers unlimited data.
I however have noticed lately that the network here in London isn’t as fast as it used to be. Im on the lookout for another deal0 -
I’ve been with 3 since 2011, used to pay £15 for the One Plan (used to be 2,000 mins to any network, unltd texts, unltd data, unltd tethering) and then they pulled that back in 2016.
I remember haggling with them as at that time the nearest equivalent package they were offering was £30 and after many weeks of speaking to different departments and operators, I finally ended up paying £1 more (£16 per month) for unltd mins, unltd texts, unltd data, 8GB tethering and had been paying that since then.
I think it was late last year Three removed the tethering cap to everyone who had unltd data package so I negotiated with them again and now pay £10 per month for unltd mins, unltd texts, unltd data, unltd tethering.
I spoke to numerous operators when I was haggling, if they were unhelpful I would just hang up and try again later until I managed to speak to someone who was willing to negotiate. They were more than happy to give me a discount for being a long term customer as initially they offered to reduce it to £12 and then the operator, off their own back, said he would do it for £10 as a loyalty discount.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
