As the finance on the car is less than 2 years you should be able to return the car to the finance company.my cousin sent his back with a blown turbo at first they refused but in the end they took it.

Personal loan, so nothing to do with a finance company.

Is that an option any more, even for the most capable DIYer, with modern engines?

I know my 62 reg Ford Grand C-Max doesn't have a Haynes and just had a quick look, it appears they do very few Kia's and only from before 2014.

We currently have £4900 of a personal loan left on the car. What is the best thing to do financially. I am very clueless when it comes to cars and don’t know whether I am best to pay for repairs or am I able to sell or scrap the car in the condition it is in and maybe just try setting up a PCP deal for a new car and just pay off the rest of the personal loan on the broken one, have got two years left to pay on it. I just think it seems a bit crazy to pay minimum of £4000 on a car that I only have £4900 left to pay on.

Who quoted you £4000? Is that the main dealer price. How much is the engine and how much is labour? Is there a trustworthy independent garage near you that can change the engine for less, possibly with a salvage engine and a lower labour charge?

So after going to the KIA dealer today and having them talk to KIA head office for us it seems the problem is not the service being one month out. It is that Arnold Clark cannot provide a KIA part code for the oil filter used during their service 3 years ago. The guy from head office on the phone has advised speaking to Arnold Clark again and said that if we get them to write on headed paper that it was a KIA approved part that was used during the service then that should be enough to satisfy the warranty team. So we are back to pestering Arnold Clark for more information. I don’t hold out much hope because they seem to say if you get this piece of information that’s what we need and then they come back and say oh no that’s not enough, so I’m fully expecting to pay it.

If it comes to it have just decided to pay for the repairs, parents-in-law have kindly agreed to lend us the money and pay back at our pace. Just have to hope that nothing else breaks in the two years we have left on the loan!

Don't give up so easily. Most manufacturers give 1 month/1k miles grace on service intervals - the main Mercedes Dealer I had my E class from did. It's not written down, and it is not contracted or else people would ask for more grace period. They were missing a code they say - did you get the name of the person saying that if AC give you the note that they will cover it? Have you got it in writing?

Isn't it a bit of a stretch to claim that anything done three years ago caused the current problem?

I think I might be threatening court.

I would be speaking with a solicitor.

Unfortunately no as my husband has been told repeatedly that he isn’t allowed to talk to the warranty team, so the manager of the dealership was on the phone to someone from KIA and he said that is what they said. It’s been a total farce from the beginning.

The manager of the dealership was so rude and told us if we buy cheap, eg from Arnold Clark this is what happens and then said he had to go sell some cars and that we’d taken up enough of his time already. Great customer service!

I also question how something from 3 years ago can be causing the problems but because we can’t talk to the warranty team it makes it very difficult.

The secretary at the dealership has been great and she said that if we pay for repairs we can still query it with KIA and if they approve it the dealership will then refund us the money. I’m a bit scared to do that incase it isn’t possible though.

A few people have suggest going to Citizen’s Advice. Don’t really have the money to be going to solicitors etc.

Why on earth have you not written to Kia yourselves?

The firm might be lying about Kia's response, or never even contacted them.

Set out the details of the story in a letter to Kia, and see what they say. Then, if they don't suggest an acceptable solution, get the car repaired and sue.

Have you spoken to Kia customer services yourself, even if you can't talk to the warranty team?

Or gone into Arnold Clark to get a statement that official parts would have been used for the service?
