The point is that you had not mentioned that your claim was based on your experience with a Natwest Smartcard reader, which is for business banking only. Nobody would have been surprised that it didn't work, as there are a number of fundamental differences between business and personal banking. Natwest explain the use of different card readers here, and Nationwide state here (in their personal banking section) that card readers they use comply to an industry standard.
I know that you don't need a cart reader to buy things with your debit card. What I don't know is how you "just made a debit card payment to another savings account" as you originally said you had done. Thanks for clearing up that you actually meant you made purchases with your debit card.
No i didnt make a purchase. I deposited money into another savings account by way of debit card payment, then transfered it to my nominated current account. Its the same process as buying something from amazon. The only thing i need is card number & 3 digit code on the back.
