NatWest Pin Reader

Now that you mention it - are you referring to yours?tangotonyb wrote: »Some idiot comments on here.
That is the most illogical conclusion I have come across in a long while.tangotonyb wrote: »Given that 3/5 banks that I currently have accounts with do NOT have card readers, it's reasonable to assume that if NW did not mention one to me, that they also did not use them.
I have recently opened my 49th current account and received my VISA debit card and PIN for it today. As I had done with the previous 48, I went to an ATM to change my PIN. By your logic, since 48/49 had let me choose my own PIN, this one would, too, wouldn't it? Well, it didn't. Different bank, different rules. It would be terrible if they were all the same.
You say Natwest told you that it exists, and there are people on this thread who confirmed that it does. However, you appear to be determined not to believe that it does, and declare anything that doesn't agree with your views as irrelevant. I am pleased to see though that you now call the gadget a card reader rather than a PIN reader.tangotonyb wrote: »So for the love of god, if you can't answer the question I posed - DOES THAT PROMPT EXIST, then please stay off this thread - your contributions are irrelevant.0 -
Wow resorting to name calling and telling people not to post on a public forum.
Way to get further help now and in the future.0 -
Im with the OP on this one. If you're not expecting it then you're going to look for it, so it is easily missed & not obvious.
I also fired off a complaint & they phoned me basically saying it was a cost saving measure, but sort of agreed with me that it should be made clearer. I was then told i could make payments under £500 without reader. This isnt true as i tried with £1 and it didnt work. Reading this thread it seems like this is only for the app (which doesnt work anyway) and lady on phone never mentioned about app.
In the end i just made a debit card payment to another savings account as i was only trying to get my £1500 out that i needed to deposit to get sign up bonus.
Also those saying use another banks reader as theyre all the same. Ive actually tried this before and it didnt work.0 -

Card readers from Natwest/RBS/Ulster, Nationwide, COOP and Barclays have always been working interchangeably. Which one(s) did you try, what was the problem you encountered? Also those saying use another banks reader as theyre all the same. Ive actually tried this before and it didnt work.
Although it isn't quite clear how you did this without a card reader, it sounds as if you didn't actually have a problem getting your money out of Natwest. In the end i just made a debit card payment to another savings account as i was only trying to get my £1500 out that i needed to deposit to get sign up bonus.0 -
To be fair I don’t remember seeing a prompt.
Their messages on the app in big letters- ‘is this payment a scam?’ are also irritating- especially when I’m only either trying to pay a) myself (to my Barclays current account) my mum or my fiance.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Best get used to it, they're covering their backsides in preparation for the new regime whereby banks accept liability for APP scams if they sign up to the voluntary code of conduct next month - one of the exclusions allowing the bank to refuse to reimburse customers is ifTheir messages on the app in big letters- ‘is this payment a scam?’ are also irritating- especially when I’m only either trying to pay a) myself (to my Barclays current account) my mum or my fiance.
so if the customer expressly confirms that a payment isn't a scam in response to a warning then this effectively gets the bank off the hook....The Customer ignored Effective Warnings, given by a Firm in compliance with SF1(2), by failing to take appropriate action in response to such an Effective Warning given in any of the following:
(i) when setting up a new payee;
(ii) when amending an existing payee, and/ or
(iii) immediately before making the payment0 -

Your link just points to a list of "Common Questions". What's your point?
You didn't look hard enough. Immediately below the heading 'Common questions' is 'why is my card-reader displaying an error message?'The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

I borrowed a nat west one from work when the battery ran out on my nationwide one. When my nat west one turned up, its different to the one i use at work so i guess business ones could be different. And yes i couldve tried it for my own nat west account, but thats not the point.
Sorry? You dont need a card reader to buy things from shops or online, so dunno how you are confused. I got my money out ok, it just took an extra 2 days to wait for it to clear.0 -
The point is that you had not mentioned that your claim was based on your experience with a Natwest Smartcard reader, which is for business banking only. Nobody would have been surprised that it didn't work, as there are a number of fundamental differences between business and personal banking. Natwest explain the use of different card readers here, and Nationwide state here (in their personal banking section) that card readers they use comply to an industry standard.I borrowed a nat west one from work when the battery ran out on my nationwide one. I know that you don't need a cart reader to buy things with your debit card. What I don't know is how you "just made a debit card payment to another savings account" as you originally said you had done. Thanks for clearing up that you actually meant you made purchases with your debit card.Sorry? You dont need a card reader to buy things from shops or online, so dunno how you are confused.
