Corsa 09 diesel failed mot - emission

My car(no dp) has failed mot due to exhaust emission being too high. The garage has put in some diesel common rail cleaner which I hope would do the job.

Can anyone advice if this is the best product.

I can see there was 6 test, and they used the 4th and 5th result with the average. Is this the normal procedure??? Had the average was from the 3rd 4th 6th average I would have pass.

I have been advised to get on the motorway for 30mins and come straight back to the garage with the engine hot tomorrow

Will this work?

If this doesn't work, what need to be check?

Thanks

If you normally only pootle locally, then a good hard run will definitely help. Just pootling on a motorway won't help - that's actually fairly low load. Give it some proper berries. Drive it hard.

The average has to be from three consecutive tests (so 3/4/6 doesn't count), and a maximum of six attempts can be made.

How far out was it? Did they test to the manufacturer's smoke limit, as shown on a sticker, or the default? It'd be very unfortunate if the manufacturer's sticker gave a lower limit but happened to get damaged to the point of illegibility while you were checking around the engine bay before the re-test.

Default for 2008-2014 is 1.5, so 1.3 must be vehicle-specific.

If the sticker hadn't been there, you'd have passed on 2/3/4 - by the skin of your teeth (1.49)

Using it properly would almost certainly see it pass even the sticker level.

Drive it like you nicked it before the test.

    [STRIKE]Remove the sticker.[/STRIKE]

Oops, I didn't say that. Obviously, if it's part of the VIN plate, rather than a separate sticker, then it's not going to be that easy anyway.

That apart, just drive the bloody thing harder.

No, you don't need to "over rev" it. Just don't pootle everywhere... Use all the throttle pedal's travel, not just the top little bit.
