Spliting Joint Costs

“I didn’t get my own way so I’m going to rant about it and spit my dummy out”.
No thanks.
This is the way they operate.
Either get a different card elsewhere or if you’re not utilising the benefits get on of the free Amex cards that still earns MR points.
Or get the Basic charge card that costs (and comes with) nothing.0 -
How much profit are you making after the £140 fee?
What do you do for retailers who dont accept amex?
As you want to split spend, do you equally pro rata the rewards or are you (which to me sounds like) creaming off the profit from OH's spend.
Why not just let OH have their own (free) mastercard which carries rewards?0 -
Ha, Zero Sum - I am the primary card holder and I spend way more on the amex! I want to split it fairly so that I pay my fair share!0

There is a benefit to you as you have four cards and everything split down.
There is a cost to them, because you could give the extra two cards to your friends and their spending would count towards your goals. You just have to write up a contract that any of the spending on the card you have given is payable by them and you have the statements all broken down with no arguments.
If they could somehow prove that the four cards were only being used for purchases for you and your partner then they wouldn't charge extra.0 -
The new cards would be in my name, how could someone else use it?0
-
Just track your own spending then.
You must know who spends what and where and when surely?0 -

When was the last time you were asked for ID when buying something?
As long as you give them the card and the pin (and for contactless you don't even need that) then having a load of cards you lend to your friends is an easy way to reach your point goals.
If there was no charge for getting lots of extra cards then there would definitely be a thread on MSE for starting your own credit card agency.0 -
I earn a lot more than my wife, but we calculate all our monthly expenditure and subtract it from our joint income, what is left over we split equally down the middle. This give us our own discretionary pot of money each month we can spend as we wish. It works for us, is fair and is not overly complicated.0

@!!!
If I shop at Tesco 20 days a month for my lunch (sole cost), and 10 times for dinner (joint) and my partner does the same, how do I know which is joint and which is sole0 -
@swindiff fair play to you, but that hardly seems fair to me. It isnt an approach I'd take.0
