Just be honest and tell them what you remember.

    Don't make anything up.

They'll review Plevin if they reject your complaint.

Morning all thanks for your replies up to press.
Capital one checker had said i had ppi back in 2004.
    And fill in the form.
It asks for employment status i cannot remember back then but think i was not.
Do they require this info or proof as it says ask hmrc for proof.
Also i did not know or remember having this ppi as this is why i checked.
    Any help guys
    Thankd

Remember that if you applied for the card you would have said you were employed / not employed, so if you then put in a PPI complaint saying the opposite it'll cause issues because it would suggest one of the answers is false.

Capital One PPI was typically sold over the phone after the event (e.g. when card activated) so it would be what you said then that matters (assuming you didn't tick a box to say you wanted it of course).

Best be honest and check what records you have.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Any statement you make needs to be the truth, so for any questions which you are not sure of the answers you need to say you are uncertain. If the answer(s) to these question(s) are crucial to your complaint, then you'll need to supply evidence. In your case, you either say you don't know whether you were employed in 2004 or you contact HMRC etc for proof.

it will tell you in the complaint response they have issued whether it is an upheld complaint or a refund due to unfair relationship (Plevin).
