I'm surprised to read so much negativity about Malta. I spent a week there a couple of years ago and would happily go back. There were plenty of things I didn't even get close to seeing.

The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • We enjoyed a day at Popeye Village, mind you that was 2010, might have changes since.

I believe there is a bus service to the site - however we walked the 15 minutes from Mellieha as we were staying in a hotel in that area,

We've just come back from a week in Malta. You can do a lot in a week, 5-7 days is ideal here. We enjoyed

    wandering Valetta
    exploring the 3 cities
    marsaxlokk
    Mdina
    Mosta dome

All of which are so small you can't really get lost so you can wander and explore without a map. We enjoyed 'following our noses' rather than feeling like we were rushing around ticking off the must sees. We couldn't do the Blue Grotto due to high winds but the scenery there was quite dramatic.

Whilst they are far more touristy areas, there are long flat proms for a gentle stroll from Paceville > Sliema and St Pauls Bay/Buggiba.

We enjoyed exploring the citadel at Victoria, Gozo but other than that we weren't that fussed with Gozo. Dingli cliffs were also a bit of a let down (although we live by stunning coastal scenery so our bar may be set higher than those of landlocked landlubbers :D)

Food and drink prices are quite reasonable by European standards. Bus pass was very good value but the buses were incredibly busy even in early April. I dread to think what they must be like in the height of the summer season. That said, we were VERY glad we didn't hire a car.

We enjoyed our week but wouldn't return. It is a place to 'be' rather than 'do' (unless you particularly enjoy visiting churches and ancient temples ad infinitum).
