John Lewis Broadband

My contract with John Lewis Broadband is about to end on the 18th April 2017. I have switched to a new provider which is due to go live sometime up to midnight on the 17th April.
John Lewis have informed me that they are going to charge me £9.50 contract cancellation fee for the phone with an additional charge to come for cancelling the broadband. My contract price with John Lewis is £22.50 per month. With the as yet undisclosed amount for the broadband they will be chargeing me more or less half my monthly fee for cancelling ONE day early or perhaps even just a few hours early. In all the years of various Internet providers that I have used no-one has ever charged me a cancellation fee for cancelling ONE day early. Dreadful practise and shame on John Lewis Broadband. Be very careful if anyone intends to use their service.

Many others do this - you just have to make sure you synch your switchover0 -
Never been charged for one before by any provider!0

Seriously though, this is quite normal for most providers if you cancel within contract, they're only charging you what you owe them until the contract date and for the period that fulfils your notice. You should have a read of your T&Cs0 -
I stand by what I have stated - I have never been charged by any provider for a switchover a day early. And if my new provider doesn't become active until midnight on the 17th technically my John Lewis contract will have ended.0

The thing is you're treating the talk package, I assume you have one their anytime products, and the broadband as the same thing. Presumably if the switchover does take place on or after the contract end date then you shouldn't have anything more to pay for the BB but your talk package is separate and you've cancelled within contract so you will be charged. Again, check your T&Cs that you freely agreed to and accepted.I stand by what I have stated - I have never been charged by any provider for a switchover a day early. No, not anytime on the phone, only evenings and weekends. So in reality my phone package has cancelled at 7pm on the 17th therefore they are charging me £9.50 for 5 hours! Wow.0

I did phone them but (very nice operator) they were unable to do anything. I also contacted my new provider a few days ago and asked to change my activation date to the 18th but.....they couldn't do it offering no reason why. I have bitten the bullet, just venting my frustration before stamping on the John Lewis router!!0
