Giving up/ Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 16

Morning today is 4/25 for me please. I found when I stopped smoking the frequency of my drinking went up, obviously looking for something to replace smoking. Definite wins for my bank balance now5

Since I seriously started to reduce my drinking in January 2019 I have "saved" over £3000. I put it in quotes because unfortunately it is diluted by the fact that my husband has taken up the slack and is drinking more ☹️. However, it is still a big saving; I think I'm ok to be here.
6/21 for yesterday please cathybird. Thank you. X

Glad to hear that you had some good news WBF, there seems to be a shortage of that just now.
I have definitely noticed the difference in my weekly grocery bill when not buying booze. I know alcohol is taxed up to the eyeballs anyway, and I am sure there is a hefty mark-up on top of that from the shops. In fact, having not drank for so long, (and therefore not having bought any alcohol during that time), it was a real shock a couple of weeks ago when I bought a box of mixed beers for my friend’s birthday gift and they rang it up at the till and it came to over £60 in total. 60 quid for ten bottles of beer! That alone is enough to make me want to cut down / give up.
And that is just drinks at home; I really, truly dread to think what I spent on going out drinking when I was younger in pubs and nightclubs. Then again that pales into comparison to what I must have been spending during my time working in the City during what I think of as ‘the wine bar years’...honestly the mind recoils from the thought of all that wasted money.
8/28 for me please cathybird.5 -

I've a query........I've been off and on this thread for over 10 years now with periods of daily posts (depending on what I'd done whilst drinking!!) to periods of silence for months and there was a lady on here who contributed sagely every day.
Always very wise words. Never, ever drank at all. I can't remember her "name" but would know it the minute I saw it. Anyone know where she is?
M.P X
That is a real shame. There was something "motherly" and "comforting" about her words but at the same time she wasn't afraid to call a spade a spade. Many times I'd appear back on here having done something awful - having slipped away from the group and daily postings - and she would tell me it exactly as it was, no frills.
Anyway, no confessions today. Completed Day 7 successfully yesterday. Thanks Cathybird.
Thanks for reading.
