In the light of the new forum rules I just wanted to say that while we mostly discuss cutting down on booze it's also obviously money-saving to spend less on alcohol and this something that gets touched on reasonably regularly! I worked out at one point how many thousands it saved me when I gave up buying a regular brand of Chardonnay I was very fond of. Must do the sums again.

In fact just doing rough sums I was spending about £1,300 a year just on the Chardonnay and I was buying other plonk as well ... if memory serves I was quite fond of vodka and always had that around. I gave all this up altogether maybe four years ago? ... so that's over £5,000 at least, just on the vino, not including the other booze. That's a tidy little sum!

Declaring early for today Thursday so 7/21 - hurray falling leaves day.It is amazing how much can be saved by not drinking. I have had times when I have bought a bottle of wine a day so around £35 a week if not more. I think you also get dragged into drinking more with buy 2 get one bottle free offers which did not necessarily mean that the wine would last three days. I notice now in my shopping if I have bought wine, one or two bottles that week.5
