And look what just popped up in my email! It's the NY Times, which is technically subscription but will let you read a certain number of free articles per month. Reflection on scientific studies re: alcohol benefits:

Thank you Maman, it was utterly exhausting and I still haven't recovered. The Americans are here for two and a half weeks and are all lovely, and OH is now back. Things will setttle back down but in the meantime I'm taking everything very slowly.
Very interesting NYT article, Glenda. The contextualisation of the Lancet paper is extremely helpful, and for those that can't access it the crux of it seems to be:
So, theoretically, if you are a daily drinker who survives the increased risk of accidents or cancers that are more likely to strike young to middle-aged people, by 80, when heart disease becomes a major cause of death, your moderate drinking could prolong your life. Then again, it might be your innate biological resilience that kept you healthy enough to drink. The data still can’t say.
19/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
Morning all, 16/21 for me today thanks.0

Gosh Honeybear what a time you have been having. Years ago we had a stray Tom cat get in our house. Left fleas and sprayed everywhere. Total nightmare. Hope Layla is ok. What does the heart murmur mean? Is she going to be prone to fainting?
Have been really fed up since I got back from hols. My hormones seem to be all over the place and I feel very down. Am going to try extra hard this week to see if not drinking will perk me up.
On that note am Shaggy can I do the snc/5 and calling in early tonight for 5/16Total weight lost 6.5/73lbs starting yet again. Afds August 10/15. /8 Sept.0 -
19/31 as of today thank you.
Well done on treating that stray with kindness, HB. If you’ve ‘escape-proofed’ your garden though and the stray got in somehow, there must logically be a way out for your cats as well?0 -
13/25 for yesterday and 14/25 for today0

Glad things are picking up on the home front HB. Wow! Those guests are staying a long time.:)GlendaSugarbean wrote: »Plus I'd soon slip into drinking a little more until I was back into my old habits.
That's why having AF days works best for me too Glenda. I'm sure counting units works for some but I know I'd soon slip. It works for my DH. I can tell (from the recycling:D) that we drink similar amounts per week but he prefers a few (tiny) glasses each evening whereas I prefer to have a few drinking days and (ideally more) AF days a week.
I was out last night and driving myself so had one of my rare AF Saturdays.
9/10 AFDs please Shaggy0 -
HB that sounds exhausting!
Hope things are back to normal soon....
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
