  • Hi HoneyBear,

Thank you for such a long, honest post. I left a get together earlier than usual last night and noticed that it got so much louder even though there were only 5 of us it was hard to hear or think. I wonder whether drink dulls the pain of all the racket too! I have has tinnitus for a few months this year and found it made me so much less patient, with large events. I know what you mean about an early night wouldn't go amiss - many people seem to be burning the candle at both ends in December so I guess we are all tired and cranky.

If you love them during the day when you see them the lunch idea sounds good

I am coming to realise that it is difficult to enjoy some of the more forced socialising without booze. Like ArsenalBarnie going out with ex-colleagues or the obligatory work Christmas events it is all oiled by booze or you realise the levels of connection are too weak outside the office.

I hope Layla doesn't stay unsettled for long.

Morning all, 15/21 for me today. :)

Honey Bear, it almost sounds to me as though you've outgrown your friends, if that's not the wrong thing to say? I hate places with loud music myself and it's not much fun being sober if everyone around you is really drunk. Mildly drunk is okay, but really drunk is not. I agree that lunches might be the way forward and more civilized xx
  • Morning all. Wasn’t as bad as I thought, but they did all moan and talk about pensions! I did notice nobody asked me what I was doing! So another 1 please. Off out on another do tonight, but will have a couple tonight. Don’t expect it to be a late one, we all like to get home early now we are a certain age!

Good morning everyone. It has been interesting reading the discussion about how different our experience of social events and 'friends' is when viewed through the clearer lens of being a non drinker or moderate drinker. Thank you Honeybear for your thought provoking post.
Another 'dry' day yesterday so 15/16 please Shaggy. Thank you. X
