Could we change the thread title please?
It should read:
Full stops; how do they affect a sentence? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I think Labour are closer to the middle ground now, even with Corbyn in charge, it will be easier to fix their spending than the conservatives problems.
Why wasn't Corbyn part of Nu Labour? Should have had a major influence as a longstanding MP.
Jewish labour party seem to believe that Corbyn isn't of a suitable calibre to lead the party. No chance of painting afresh if the plaster won't dry out. As the damp keeps on rising yet again.0 -
Not sure what to read into this monologue from Theresa May, what do you all think?

Reading between the lines it means -
Article 50 won`t be revoked
We are leaving
......and It isn`t my fault if it is on a No Deal basis....Goodnight.0 -

I can see us withdrawing and going back to normal (internationally at least) within a few years.
Or leaving with some bodgeddeal and a slow slide into irrelevance as everyone using us as a bridge to the EU bypasses us. Research funds will skip us, investment will skip us.
In terms of local politics almost nothing will change either way. We'll still be a 2 party system with huge discontent. People will still vote against either Labour or Tory. Scotland and NI may split off and leave England/Wales to become more insular. The poor will still be poor and the rich will still flourish.Other Brexit threads are mostly fight between Leavers and Remainers, each group accusing other why "I am right and you are wrong". If half of country believes in an ideology it is worth investigating why they think so (rather than just saying - you are stupid)
Some of us has been trying to figure out why and engage on it for 3 years now, but just can't get any answer deeper than soundbites.0 -
Interesting article in CNN
https://edition-m.cnn.com/2019/04/06/uk/europe-brexit-analysis-gbr-intl/index.html
The video on the same page of CNN's guide to Brexit is a wonderful explanation of how far we have sunk due to BoJo (serial rule breaker) and Farage.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Labour's historic track record in managing the economy is appalling. Current leadership would be a disaster for the UK. Shame that Nu Labour didn't evolve from it's early status to take the middle ground. Instead clung onto ideals that are hopelessly outdated in this modern world.
I'm sorry but this lazy right wing trope is nonsense. The national debt has ballooned under 10 years of Tory rule to dwarf the borrowing of every combined government in the post war era.
Wages are lower in real terms to 2007. Poverty, inequality, homelessness and social mobility has increased by hundreds of thousands. Public services are in funding crises. Schools have no money, hospitals have no staff.
Exactly like every other time we have had a Tory government since the 80s.
If you want to compare a rich country to a poor country, travel directly from Labour run Britain in 2006 to Tory run now.0 -
I'm not sure that not revoking article 50 is May's decision.
It would require a vote in Parliament, but both main parties would be voting against their original vote to trigger it (making parliament look pretty stupid) and against a majority of voters in one of the biggest UK election turnouts ever (meaning the two main parties would be voting to collapse their own vote) Some Labour MP`s are probably stupid enough to do this though. For "Doom Mongers" a political move like this would be better than Brexit, way better. The rumblings from Brussels though are that some members are getting peed off, and are not on the official page any more, so don`t expect that extensions etc. are a given either IMO.0 -

Ah so that means it won't happen then!
Revocation does not require EU approval.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

That ship has sailed.Crashy_Time wrote: »and against a majority of voters in one of the biggest UK election turnouts ever
A very slim majority & still a huge number of people who didn't turn out. Farage said he'd keep fighting for another vote if it was 52% remain and 48% leave.0
