Bluenose1 have you thought about keeping a base in the U.K. and letting it to fund your extra long holidays.

We currently live in Llandudno and the bungalow is already purchased so house going on the market on Wednesday. JoeEngland, Anglesey is beautiful, however, quite a lot of the local villages are Welsh first language so there is a job for you before you retire, learn to siarad Cymraeg

Anglesey ticks many of my boxes, and if we moved there I'd like to learn Welsh. The surprising thing is that the staff in the hotel we stayed in didn't sound overly Welsh!0 -
There are so many places that are worth considering, will be interesting to see where you prefer. My husband would not want to move too far from Liverpool, so I am thinking of places no more than an hour away. Unless we holiday somewhere like Cyprus and just think blow it and uproot totally, though doubt it. Exciting times no matter what!!!
We did exactly that and sold up in uk and live in northern Cyprus full time :jLiving the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

I slowly but surely got bigger and bigger from my late 20s to late 40s. I then decided to do something about it and lost a lot of weight. Along the way I was struggling to get any more weight off and bought a bike. It became more important than the weight loss and has changed my life. I do very long distance events, I suppose the cycling equivalent of an ultra. They're non-competitive (allegedly) with a maximum and minimum time.
Part of my motivation was that I wasn't sure my knees would cope with running at my age and cycling isn't weight-bearing. I've had a few ups and downs over the last 9 years, but this year my mileage and motivation is way up. Despite the ups and downs of cycling I've managed to keep almost all the weight I lost in 2010 off.
All I need now is to get a retirement deal, so I can cycle, caravan and dogwalk fulltime.0 -

Hi Techno, has half crossed my mind. Just wonder how that would work eg if we wanted to go away for 2 months. Who would rent a house for this length of time and where would I put my stuff!!
Now if anyone wants to house swap with me now that would be fine.
In Estate Agent speak - a beautiful 5 bedroom semi with newly fitted kitchen, bathroom blah blah blah not far from Aintree Racecourse.
The reality is we live not far from a major A road which 1000s of trucks drive down each day. Dread to think of the pollution from the trucks that thunder through our residential area past 2 infant/ junior schools near us.
Now I don't want to be inundated with offers of a swap!!Money SPENDING Expert0 -

Wow, that really is living the dream. If I retire abroad Cyprus would be high up on the list as I like that they drive on the same side of the road. I would never drive in Spain etc:eek:
If you don't mind me asking what made you choose Northern Cyprus?
Are house prices expensive over there? What do you do with your days?Money SPENDING Expert0 -
Am planing on stopping work before much longer. Have had a full on & successful corporate career in management consulting which has been mentally stimulating, socially enjoyable and involved great variety over many years - as well
as being financially rewarding too. The downside has been relentless stress, long hours and difficulty in developing many friends away from work. It has included extensive travel too but I have mostly enjoyed that element.
I have a few hobbies/activities which I am looking forward to following more in retirement but I’m interested in how others have approached the switch from the satisfaction derived from complex issue resolution at work to a less pressured retirement life. I want to avoid the ties of a contracted work schedule. Am thinking a mixture of volunteering and creative hobbies plus travelling for pleasure. A couple of friends have recommended non exec directorships but am not sure. Earning in retirement not a priority..0 -

Anything with a 15 plate on is actually emitting very little in the way of emissions.
We rarely do containers, but occasionally the Americans send some explosives over so it could be one of my beautiful trucks has done some thundering.Yes I'm bugslet, I lost my original log in details and old e-mail address.0 -

It depends where you want to live. There is a lot more Welsh spoken on Anglesey and in Gwynedd than in my neck of the woods and the less touristy villages tend to have more Welsh speakers. Not essential, mind but helps with the integration

p!!
What about something you could let as a holiday rental and then eventually could make into your forever home (or sell up) you could then 'book in' when back in the U.K..
