Ha ha! I tried to edit a typo in the first post and my iPad locked up so I started bashing all the buttons. Two posts were the result and I couldn't delete either of them.0 -
Your ineptitude shouldn’t mean they’re out of pocket.
£68 for shipping half way around the world is very reasonable when you factor in the man hours of tracking it down, storing it and arranging postage.
It’s a lesson in both keeping a better track of your belongings, and not trying to blame others for your own misgivings.
Did you expect them to just post it over for free? That’s not how the world works I’m afraid!0 -
In 50+ years of flying around I've always adhered to my golden rule of NEVER putting anything of mine in the seat pocket. Then there's no chance of forgetting it there, out of sight.
I did neglect to teach this to my daughter before her first flight when nine years old - she left her passport in the seat pocket, but remembered while still in the ramp. I sent her back against the tide to collect it, I think she learned from that.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Don't Air Canada make an advisory announcement when flight lands, reminding passengers to collect all their personal belongings before departing the aircraft ?
Standard operating procedure on all airlines in my experience.0 -
I travelled back from Greece with my elderly parents. I left my purse on the seat. Realising as soon as I left the plane I went straight to lost property and gave details. I went home and filled out an online form stating exactly what was in my purse. After 4 days of ringing and getting no reply I finally heard that they had my purse with my money.
I went to collect it and found out that a) I had to pay £10 to collect it and b) they had exchanged my euros into English pounds without my consent. I wasn't even going to cash in the euros myself as I'm going away again soon. I lost out on about £175. Surly this is not legal??
Anyone else experienced this and what do u suggest I do?
I have already put a formal complaint in but heard nothing!0 -

You haven't identified which airline you're complaining about here.
Seeing as what appears to have happened is an act far beyond the boundaries of acceptable behaviour in regard to the discovery and return of missing property, you need to be much more aggressive in your dealings with the airline involved.
Nothing under the law or air travel convention of any country allows an airline employee to remove the cash contents of a passenger's purse and then replace those contents with a currency of her / his choosing. It's a wilful intrusion on your fundamental right to do what you -- and only you -- wish with your possessions, including your money.
PS: the above observation is made in light of your specific assertion that "they had exchanged my euros into English pounds without my consent". Assuming you know this to be a fact, the question arises: how, exactly, did you discover this?0 -
lost property for items left by passengers is often funded by charges for collections (where the airline etc are not controlling the baggage)
as for changing your currency....what have the office said re the exchange? did they state why this was done? did they log the contents when they received the item? ..seems very strange.
Well done getting it back....often items left on the plane run the risk of being picked up by someone else and not returned0
