Absolutely not my fault!

The way the OP posted puts a different slant on it versus the way you quoted it.
Have you looked at the location?

The OP turned right, as the red Ka is doing, and the "squeeze" in question is the bit ahead of the black Fiesta. Using Google Maps' measuring tool, the single-width section is 80m+.
From the other end...

Definitely 50/50. Even though you can see quite clearly down the narrow lane from the junction, with signs showing just how narrow the road is, you still proceeded when there was a van already coming the other way. So yes, you "absolutely" share some of the fault and, as others said and exemplified by your other recent posts, you really need to take a long hard look at your driving and observation skills.0

I have seen this with other road users, and one friend in particular who has had four, albeit minor, motorcycle accidents in the last year or so.
If an individual has had several accidents within a short space of time then their driving skills need to be questioned. This applies regardless of who is at fault as, just because you were not found to be at fault, it does not mean that you could not have avoided the accident. An improvement of road skills in any of us will lead to fewer accidents - regardless of blame.
The problem is that none of us like to think that we are less than perfect drivers and being self-effacing is sometimes, by its very nature, uncomfortable. I think that this is where the OP is with this. I am familiar with that junction and from the information provided in their own words it is clear that the OP is, at the very least, partly to blame for the collision. The trouble is that they either cannot or will not accept it.0 -
Buy a dash camera chop chop - without witnesses then the best you could hope for is 50/50.

It’s a busy little pass with traffic queuing each way to get through.
Had he not have speeded up I would have been past the bollards and we’d have been able to pass each other - he was in a rush, he wouldn’t wait.
As others have said you need to realise there is nothing special about any of us and why you should get preferential treatment to other road users.
The van driver was probably thinking the same thing, if only you had waited for a few seconds he would have been past.
Am pretty sure everyone here has been in the same situation as you describe, I encounter it 2-3 times a day.
The answer is very simple, instead of trying to beat the other road user, or claim a right of way, just relax and chill. Yes that might mean waiting for an extra 5 seconds, or even 10, but its better than getting involved in a totally avoidable and pointless accident.
Now your stressed, the van driver is likely stressed, both your insurance bills will go up, and all for the sake of trying to save a few seconds.....I doubt anyone would say thats a good outcome for either party.
Sometimes in life you need to stop, take a hard look of the situation, reflect and adapt your behaviour so it doesn't happen again. The longer you try to advocate fault in this situation the more stressed your get, put it down as a life lesson, accept 50/50, realise some people drive like twits so need to be avoided, and move on to more important things to stress over.0 -
No, it really doesn't. The bits I referred to were the bits that were within the OP's control.
There's an 80m single-width "squeeze". My money's on the van already being in that section when the OP started to barge through regardless - the van, if it really did "speed up" (and that isn't just the OP justifying his actions) could argue that they did so to let the OP through quicker. Nothing the OP says suggests the van was THAT far away.
Combine with the previous incidents, and you have a picture of somebody who looks no further than the end of his bonnet, and expects the world to get out of his way.0 -
I know the road, I used to use it when I fished at Papercourt and the river by the abbey. I had a road rage incident there once, I was waiting for the traffic to clear before I entered the narrow road. The 4x4 behind me started tooting so I opened my door, looked behind and told him to wait.
He tailgated and sounded his horn all the way to Old Woking!0
