Absolutely not my fault!
I turned right into a narrow road, it starts as a really narrow lane, then it widens very slightly, then it’s normal.
It’s the village of Ripley in Surrey, the right turn towards Woking by the kitchen shop.
Anyway I turned there and as I turned a van was coming, rather than hold back a couple of foot so we could pass after where the bollards are he did the drive right up to me at speed thing.
Now, neither of us could go up on the pavement there (a thing that does happen frequently on that section to pass).
He only went for it - before I even had time to think, I actually had the hand break on! He hit me, there just wasn’t enough room - I knew there wasn’t. He then had to reverse.
I got out of my car very annoyed and told him off for driving into an impossible gap & hitting my car - honestly any fool could see the gap was too small.
He then said I drove into him, my bloody car wasn’t even in gear!
He looked really sheepish saying this. Well he would he knew he was lying.
I asked the car behind him if he saw it, but due to the angle of the road they couldn’t see. They could see him pull forward and reverse but not that he’d hit me. I asked the car behind. They’d only arrived as it happened. I think I was unlucky and no one wanted to get involved just wanted to get to work.
I took a photo of his number plate and he gave me his number - it’s a moody number!!! It was a white can, he wore a Volvo top, I assume he worked for Volvo. But the van didn’t say Volvo.
When I got to work a colleague looked at it on google maps and suggested I call the shop to ask if they’d seen it, massive Windows’s right by it. They didn’t and they advised me there is no cctv.
I don’t have any witnesses, any cctv or a dash cam.
The damage is minimal to mine, I didn’t look at his.
I was so shocked at him lying after driving into me!!!
What do I do?
If it’s my word against his is it 50-50? :-(
It’s so unfair - so dishonest.

Your fault absolutely, What's a moody number?
I sometimes wear a Kawasaki jacket & cap, I don't work for Kawasaki.0 -
Split liability.
God that’s so unfair!
I knew the gap was too narrow, far too narrow.
He didn’t even give me a minute to reverse. It would have been a really difficult place for me to reverse, the pavement is super skinny less than 2 foot. So the shop blocks vision
But I didn’t even get a minute to consider it, he just “went for it”.0 -
I messaged him to tell him I’d leave it, the damage to mine is a small scuff.
That’s how I know he gave me a dodgy number.
Had he apologised I would have let it go there and then, it’s a small scuff, there are other marks on the wheel arch.
But he was so awful lying it wasn’t a pleasant conversation!
I don’t want to go 50:50 for a tiny scuff, I shouldn’t be in this position, I wouldn’t be if I hadn’t met Billy Liar today!0 -
Please could you confirm if my interpretation is correct.
You wanted to turn right into a side road that at its opening is single lane but opens out to two lanes. You saw a van coming up the road towards you that would need to exit the road before there was room for you to turn in. You decided to turn in anyway expecting the van to reverse back down the road for you.
This would put you at fault for not taking account of traffic established on the side road that had right of way.0 -

No, it’s a narrow lane. You turn into it, you can’t wait until there is a clear run, otherwise you’d block the main road.
This is Surrey, M25 territory, it’s busy.
I was already on the road as he came along, I’d turned in.
It’s a funny road. Before you get the narrow bit you have a strange turning bit - hard to describe.
I was coming into the county lane, he was coming off it.
He should have held back a couple of seconds and we’d both have been at a part we could pass at. It was another 8 foot.
Neither of us had right of way.
I stopped, because he was hurtling down the road towards me, hence I was forced to stop short of the passing point.
EDITED TO ADD, I certainly didn’t expect him to reverse, I either expected him not to speed up to prevent me getting to the passing point - petty. Or I would have reversed, but he literally didn’t give me a minute to.0 -

You mean by these bollards, you should have waited and let him through.0
