Ignoring the bizarre LL behaviour for now, but Ikea sell very cheaply blinds that stick on to the window frame. I imagine they could easily be removed at the end of the tenancy. Worth considering at least.0

As stated not really bizarre, you have obviously not spent hours redoing tenants attempts at putting up curtain poles. Filling holes making good redecorating painting etc.
Most good Landlords would I believe not take any thing from deposit for this as its their time and expense. But it does annoy some.
Renter can always go elsewhere and rent a rather less cosmetically good looking property, where landlord does not care about such things or his new tenants. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
Find another landlord. Your friend can put up anything she wants as long as she fixes the damage when she leaves but with a landlord who is this unreasonable, the curtains will only be the beginning of her problems.
Since the agent said the landlord won’t allow ANY installation, it’s not a case of being worried about damage from amateurs making holes in the walls. Even getting professionals wouldn’t be acceptable.0 -
Depending on the size of the windows portable black out blinds with suction cups might be an option for the bedroom if it's only for a few months.0

How about the landlord puts them up himself, and provides curtains. Ta da, no tenant has to attempt to put up curtain poles. That's just a basic norm isn't it?
As an engineer I'm very confused by the "tension poles" suggestion. You'd want something in compression, not tension. They're compression poles! But most shops seem to call them tension poles... bizarre!0 -
Move on, clearly bonkersBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

LOL I am an ex engineer too and my take on tension is pushed out. Compression is pushed in? But whatever works LOL
As to Landords putting up poles curtains, why? only for prospective tenant to complain wrong style, colour, drop, width etc.
The modern fad is no curtains at all only designer blinds in Grey LOL
Many Landords will not allow pictures hanging, wall shelfs, Wall tvs etc anything that damages the inner fabric of the property. NO HOLES in walls! Saves a lot of arguing etc at tenancy end.
But then again this is in more refurbed/renovated/upmarket properties.
Older ones they let them do what they want as they will probably have to steam clean the place and repair anyway:)The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
I could understand it if the landlord fitted curtain poles and then specified that no other blinds/poles/etc could be fitted by the tenants - but not this 'NO curtains/blinds allowed'.
Sounds well creepy. Does the LL live across the road - and does he have a pair of binoculars on his window ledge?0 -
Just curious - if there are no blinds and curtain poles, and the LL won't let a tenant put any up (I can understand that) then what do the LL expect the tenant to do? Be woken up before 5am each midsummer morning?
As said I understand landlords not wanting tenants to put their own up, but to not provide a pole or blind just seems odd to me.0 -
