Granted it isn't about which network your XZ Premium is locked to, but it may/may not help:

If you are using a Sony XZ Premium, XZ1 or XZ1 Compact, to get Wifi and 4G Calling, your device will need to use O2 firmware. This is essentially the software that makes your device turn on and run. Sometimes there are different versions of firmware for the same device. Your device should use O2 firmware if you bought it direct from us in an O2 shop, online or over the phone.

To check if your Sony is running O2 firmware:

Open the ‘Chrome’ app and tap the Home icon in the top left corner. If this takes you to https://www.o2.co.uk then your device has O2 firmware. If it takes you to Google, then Wifi and 4G Calling isn’t supported on your phone right now.

If you have changed the homepage in Chrome since buying your device, tap the three dots in the top right corner of Chrome, tap Settings, tap homepage, tap to edit the homepage and then press ‘Reset’. If it resets to https://www.o2.co.uk, then your device has O2 firmware. If it resets to Google, then Wifi and 4G Calling isn’t supported on your phone right now.

Granted this refers to the Xperia Z3 but I would assume the process is similar:

    Open the Dialer App

    Then press *#*#7378423#*#*

Then click "Service Info" and press "SIM Lock"

    If you have this output

    [x] Network Unlimited
    [] Network subset 0
    [] Service Provider 0
    [] Corporate 0
    [] SIM 0

this means you are worldwide unlocked to use with any carrier.

If any of those have "1" it means you are locked with some EU carrier

True enough, of course there's a very limited number of companies that it could be on O2. We know it's not O2 so that leaves Giffgaff (mentioned so maybe top of the list), Lycamobile, Sky Mobile and Tesco Mobile (also mentioned so at least 2nd on the list).

There may be others that have swapped carriers at some point.

Giffgaff don’t lock handsets, they only sell unlocked phones.

Good point, so we're down to Lycamobile, Sky Mobile and Tesco Mobile although we'll never know if the OP doesn't come back.

The only thing you need to do is repair it where you bought it.
