Mis Advertised Tv

The bottom line is if Argos stated anywhere it’s a 10 bit panel before you purchased the tv and it’s not you’ll have some sort of comeback but if not there’s not much you can do really
The legal responsibility of the tv you bought lies 100% with the retailer as far as any comeback is concerned0 -

First cool your jets a bit. Just because someone's opinion isn't what you want to hear, it may be correct.
Here's some advice for you:
https://web.archive.org/web/20171213070925/https://www.argos.co.uk/product/6847511
Here is the link to the TV as at 13 Dec 2017, and you bought just after this.
There's nothing in that ad about 10bit.
You can't sue/get compo from Argos about something that was in your head (your assumption) at the time of purchase, unless you specifically asked the store the question and they told you it was 10 bit.
If not, you have nothing to base any complaint on I'm afraid.
Sorry if this advice falls in your definition of "stupid".0 -
Partially, don't you mean 100%. If Argos didn't mention anything about it being 10 bit, and it looks like they didn't, then you have no leg to stand on. It matters not a jot how it was advertised by other retailers, you didn't purchase it from them, did you!It is partially my fault I should have contacted LG to find out for sure before buying from Argos. What I would like is for LG to start advertising the exact panel on their website, It would help consumers find exactly what they are looking for.0 -
Hi
I wasn't calling people stupid because I did not agree with their answer, I was calling them stupid for calling me stupid and assuming the worst. Like I said many times I was after advise and some people decided to just be plain rude.
There is no need for it. I totally understand about argos not mentioning it was 10 bit. I've also mentioned that I had to source that answer from several places at the time. From review sites and from Tv spec sites like display specs / com. What I'm mainly after is a way to get at LG and other manufacturers to post the real specs of the tv's for example, There are several LG tv's that advertise as 4k and they are not, as the panels use RGBW on a wide range meaning they cannot truly hit 4k and they get away with this constantly.
There is far too much misleading grey areas in TV at the moment like ultra HD, super ultra HD HDR, HDR+ and so on. But when it comes down to several manufacturers they are not telling you the differences and in a lot of cases the difference is mainly the price.
I've got a case open with LG at the moment they have escalated it further as they have seen the TV on their website it advertised as HDR10 with no mention of panel type and the agent agreed that it could be confusing.
It's really hard to shop around when the manufacturer doesn't have the true specs on their site so yes I had to use other retailers and specification sites to do my homework and no it was not all in my head the TV was advertised on several sources including sites designed to give you in depth tv specs.
So I thank you all for your time and if anything comes from LG I'll let you knowFrancis, Francis

Hi
I've got a case open with LG at the minute and the agent told me they will not post the panel type of a tv on their site. It is not something they advertise as they feel it's not an important factor. see the response from LG below
"Your model is one of the TVs that has an 8 bit panel with the 2 bit dithering. This means that although the panel is only 8 bit the TV will artificially enhance this to 10 bit. We are aware that some retailers have been advertising these models as having a 10 bit panel, we can only assume that this is for ease of explanation to customers. On our site we don't advertise models with panel specifications listed as it is felt that this is not a major selling point for the majority of customers."

It is highly unlikely you will force LG to change their listed specifications by yourself.
If you feel adverts are misleading you can report them to the ASA. You may also want to report the issue to Trading Standards. Depending on where you are a Trading Standards complaint may need to go through the CAB.0 -
As mentioned I spent weeks trying to find out what I was buying and in short at the time not currently as all ads have been updated since then the tv was advertised (not by LG) as a full 10 bit panel as LG will not advertise the panel type. This was sourced from LG themselves.Colin_Maybe wrote: »And you know this how?Hi

Ahh, I read your original post as saying LG were advising the advertisers it was a full 10 bit when you bought it.0
