Reporting unlicenced/untaxed car question?

it is part of the public highway
The above statement indicates that there is an untaxed vehicle on a public highway.
If it is untaxed then this is illegal.
It cannot be declared "SORN" as it is on a public highway.
So the OP is right to follow this up.
Unless of course there is more to this than is being discussed (Which I think is now my get out clause for everything)We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Funny enough I saw the DVLA clamp a transit van yesterday a decent one at that with tradesman logo on it. They clamped the transit and shoved a big sticker on drivers windscreen only took them a couple of minutes to do. I saw a woman outside the house where it was clamped unsure if it was out to do with that house or whether it was her who reported it, she didn't look angry anyhow.
When I came back that way an hour later noticed tax expired in Sept 070 -
drc until 2009 there is no law which forces the police to take action over parked vehicles that do not have valid road tax.
The police will only take action if when the car is being driven around and the council will only take action if the car is a wreck i.e. on health and safety grounds, or abandoned.
Both parties will try and pass the buck to each other in my experience unless you are aware before you complain who is responsible for what.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
I'm not going to help on this one, because it appears the vehicle is no longer being used on the highway, at the very most it is being kept on the highway which is a different offence.
I can think of a solution, but even that solution would be difficult to put into effect. Actually i can think of 2 solutions.
If it is sitting in a car park and advertised for sale, I don't see the problem. (which is the main reason for me not helping).
I also agree with theimportanceofbeingidle someone who advocates flytipping can hardly be in a moral position to complain about a car parked in a carpark.0 -
Report it to your local concillor. If you're lucky and live in a unitary authority area, the police and the abandoned vehicle team will both have the same employer who are answerable to councillors. If you are not and there is a borough and a county council there is still a pretty good chance your councillor will stop them passing the buck. Go to your council website and you can find out who your councillor is, along with their contact details.0

Just found this and it's probably a bit late now, but try your local fire service.
Ours have a "grabber" service which will come and remove vehicles just such as this. Apparently they like trying out the jaws of life on them.........0 -
Inform the council, you have reason to believe there is an abandoned car.
If you see it being driven, either on the public highway, or on land to which the public have access, call the police...they have the power to impound the vehicle....they can check if it is insured. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
I'm sorry, I can't help with a solution to this, but an unlicensed vehicle on a public highway (parked or otherwise) is breaking the law and making a mockery of those of us who ensure all our documentation is up to scratch.
I hope you manage to get it sorted drc.0
