Reporting unlicenced/untaxed car question?
I want to report a car with no licence plates/tax disc that is parked in the parking lot outside my block of flats (but part of the public highway) to my local council. I believe this car is owned by another resident in the block of flats where I live. I am about to compose a letter to the relevant dept but I am worried that the enforcing officer may disclose who reported the car. Is this the case or do they have to keep these things confidential? Is there anything I can wwrite on the letter that will ensure my details are not disclosed to the owner?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I dont think they do, all they will say is that it has been reported, if in any doubt state on the letter that you do not wish them to be told it is you who reported it0

Do it online - no need to give your name etc.
I have done this on a couple of occasions - works after a time - the car will probably be towed away.

you say licence plates,do you mean registration plates?
if so it might be that the car is in the motions of being imported
or has it been there for yonks,
anyways just dont put your details on the letterIMOJACAR

I have reported it to the DVLA anonymously and they did nothing. I called them and they said it is not their 'area' as they would have no register of who owns the car since it has no licence plates and that it is up to the local council to deal with it. Everyone is passing the buck...0 -

The car has no licence/registration plates. It has been here for well over 3 months. There is a letter inside the car with "awaiting registration doucments" written on it but we know this is false as the car was advertised online and the seller wrote that he could not register it as it was imported and he does not have a UK licence, hence why he needs to sell it.0 -

Seems fairly plausible to me. He has a car that has no plates. He has no license and wants to sell the car. Why bother yourself with something so trivial? Is it causing harm to anybody? This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
No problem with someone having a car to sell however surely if it is untaxed it cannot be on the public highway, and this as you said is part of said highway.
Shame the DVLA are not interested, what about the local police?
Can you report it as an abandoned car?
My council have very specific criteria for an abandoned car but this is untaxed, with no plates then it is nothing more than a large lump of metal.
Have you tried this site, no idea what it is like but it may help.We all evolve - get on with it0 -

I don't think it is trivial. The car has been driven on to the main road several times (at high speed) and that is quite serious as he is unlikely to have insurance if he has an accident or damages any of the other cars.
Parking spaces are at a premium here and I do resent the fact that this car is parked here paying no road tax and having no plates, that might sound trivial but we are getting sick of having to park far away from where we live because this car is taking up a valued space.0 -
Phone the police and tell them, you do not have to give your name, we had a similar problem near where I used to work, when it was reported the police came and checked the vehicle within a couple of days and it soon disappeared.0

Unfortunately the police have already been informed and I even saw a policeman nosing around the car months ago. All this has done is stop the driver from driving it onto the main road but the car is still here. Basically, everyone is passing the buck, the DVLA say it is the local council's responsibility as does the police. The local council have been informed (anonymously) but the inspector assumed it was private land (it is not, I now have a letter from the local council confirming this). I want to get this car moved but right now I am thinking it seems so much trouble and the council wil probably still refuse to move it for some reason or another.0
