  • If it has no plates, its an MOT failure. Which means its not roadworthy.
I had onbe outside our house a few years ago. I phoned the Poilice who said its a local car and that they have to give the owner a few days to move it incase its broke etc...

As this one has no number plates and the DVLA aint interested in it. give them the chassis number. Which the DVLA have records of and will be able to trace the owner. Or its documents...

Where can I find this chassis number? I believe the car has been imported from abroad as we found it advertised for sale online and the guy says it is his car from Dubai (I guess that means its imported)? Would the DVLA still have details of imported cars?

I don't think it is trivial. The car has been driven on to the main road several times (at high speed) and that is quite serious as he is unlikely to have insurance if he has an accident or damages any of the other cars.

Parking spaces are at a premium here and I do resent the fact that this car is parked here paying no road tax and having no plates, that might sound trivial but we are getting sick of having to park far away from where we live because this car is taking up a valued space.

So you're annoyed because it's occupying a parking space???

As defined by law, a public highway consists of any verge, footway, carriageway, bridleway or footpath that is maintained at public expense and over which the public has a right of way.

No mention of car parks. So he's probably well within his rights to park the car there.

It's not exactly an abandoned car is it. Why don't you speak to the owner and see if there's any way it could be sold?

Actually it is part of the public highway. I have a letter from the council confirming this. And no, it is not a 'car park' I just used that term to describe an area whose official terminology I do not know. What difference does it make as it is officially classed as part of the public highway, has council streetlights lining it and has council vans parked here every day. So they are not within their rights. Besides, if a car is on private land and has no tax disc don't they have to have a SORN notification?

The owners have been spoken to by the manager of the block of flats but have ignored a polite request to move it.

How do you know the vehicle hasn't been declared SORN??? It's either a car park or it isn't. You've clearly stated that parking spaces are 'at a premium'. Are you on a wind up? Your gripe isn't the fact that it's untaxed. Your gripe is with the fact that YOU can't park there. Jealousy is not a nice trait.

You're the sort of neighbour that appears on Neighbours From Hell. Whinging about the bad people you have to live next to, all because you can't keep your nose out of others' business. It's pathetic to be honest. Can I suggest finding a hobby that doesn't involve trying to be pedantic?

EDIT: Your previous posts on MSE claim that the car is owned by a group of students that constantly rev the engine. Drive it on the street and you claim they have nearly knocked you over and your first post on this thread states that you believe it to be owned by another resident in the block. You complain about cockroaches and soggy carpets then advise an MSE'er to just throw a fridge into the street. You need to get your stories straight and your priorities in order and stop whinging.

Calm down you'll have a heart attack. If you have a problem with me or my posts which you seem to think contradict each other, perhaps it would be best to PM me rather than ranting on a website or just ignore my posts if they are going to annoy you so much. I have no problem if you disagree with me or if you think I am a 'neighbour from hell' as you are entitled to your opinion and I admit that sometimes I repeat things in posts and have had the audacity to have an 'unorthodox' opinion about an old fridge (terrible crime), I am only human afterall and nobody agrees with everybody 100% of the time. As far as I know, I have stated everything truthfully. I do not think it is all that helpful to respond to someone who has a genuine (if complicated) query to reply in such an aggressive manner and it will only put people who come here looking for advice off.

    Have a good evening :)
  • Unfortunately DVLA cannot do anything if there is no number plate as all their records are held by number plate. They cannot trace by chassis number either.

If it is a foreign/import vehicle then it is the responsibilty of the local council to remove. The police also have powers to remove the vehicle but don't always act upon it sadly.
