I took a BA flight from HKG to LHR a few years ago and only a small section of the flight had any IFE. They did try rebooting the system a couple of times but to no avail. Those of us with blank screens were given a form to complete and I was given Avios for my inconvenience. I don’t recall how many.

Avios or FF points are the norm, cabin dictates how many, but as Thomas Cook don't do a FF scheme it's seems fair the OP can hope for refund/gift card. TBH Thomas Cook are a low cost airline and any refund for IFE is likely to be low.

This is why I always take some form of in flight entertainment for myself, just in case anything happens.

I know Virgin carried iPads for broken in flight entertainment. I heard them asking for them back before landing.

It's the same as taking snacks in case you don't like the food, or carrying water if you're thirsty and can't service as soon as you'd like. Preparation is key with flights (especially long haul)

FYI - my colleague flew with Air Europa and they don't even have in flight entertainment on their long haul flight from Peru to Madrid!
  • Thank you all. Yes, I'm just going to leave it, as what they gave us in recompense appears to be the norm you would expect.

Jet2 dont and they do UK and New York routes in the autumn. But I suppose they tell people that beforehand.

17 hours Brize Norton to MPA. No IFE in either direction and also a dry flight.

Ha, I was just about to post the exact same as unforseen above. Did that trip 3 times, and many others in RAF transport aircraft. IFE is for wimps. Happy days.

The good old days. Throwing a 6 pack of beer down your neck on the 20 min refuelling stop at ASI at 6 o'clock in the morning with the temperatures already in the mid 20s.

Surely this in flight entertainment is being over hyped. I recently flew back from Delhi with Virgin Atlantic. Maybe I should be pleased that the drivel available did help me nod off occasionally.;)

I agree with Sharon, preparation is necessary. That's why I had my book and meal deal from Subway. :D

Lack of IFE wouldn't bother me. When I have tried to watch a film the picture quality has either been too poor (especially on the older BA screens) or I've nodded off before the end. I prefer to slef-medicate with a few drinks and plug in my earphones and just listen to music/podcasts until I fall asleep.

Yes and the touch screen is a bit old and dodgy, you really have to poke it hard sometimes to press it (I'm sure the person in front really loved me poking the back of their seat!!)

It can be good if there's movies you're interested in but wouldn't pay to see, as they have recent releases and sometimes not even released in the UK yet! There's never enough entertainment for 2 flights worth though, so I also take my own movies/music.
