Misleading pricing in supermarket

But surely if it's two of the same item then by definition it can't be any two.

That was the exact point I made to them along with that their offer is really 2 for £x rather than any two. But the manager was insistent that any 2 for £x is not misleading because its any 2 of the same item.

That was at 3 different stores (two in the same area and the third about 20 miles away) and I haven't shopped at tesco since around 2014 so if its still happening, it would imply its nationwide policy rather than just one manager interpreting it wrongly.

    And your point is?

It's perfectly clear online. I've never seen a problem online. But I do regularly come across misleading offer pricing on supermarket shelves and that's what I'm complaining about!

I realise that. I was simply pointing out that I think you were right and the store worker was wrong.
Tesco online use the term "any two" to mean that you can choose from a selection of products so why should they expect consumers to know that the terminology has a different meaning when used in a store?

It's much more likely there was one offer on the breads and one offer on the sweets or something of that nature.
It's also possible the wrong PLU was used on the bakery printer for one item, or that one was not on the offer.
Wouldn't be the first time either that the POS was in the wrong place...
Yes, this is almost certainly the correct explanation, and whoever the OP spoke to was wrong (or explained it badly).
If you feel the need, report it to the ASA.
No, in-store labelling issues aren't in the ASA's remit. Trading Standards are who you should complain to

That's useful, thanks very much davidmcn. That's who I threatened the supervisor with in the store. I had thought I was wrong up to this point, and that it should have been the ASA!

That's two things I've learned from this thread so far. Thanks everyone

Ah cool. Sorry George Michael, I misunderstood you.

Trading standards can no longer be contacted directly, you have to go through Citizens Advice Bureau (and unless enough people complain TS won't do anything)
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Based on the SEL the price (65p) must have been for the 4-pack, in which case the offer is correct, but the product (if they were 6-packs) must have been in the wrong location (online a 6-pack is £1).

Possibly as davidmcn is in Scotland and referred to contacting TS directly.

Another +1 for Scotland getting better results than England!

To be fair, I don't have any experience of trying to contact Trading Standards so I'm not sure how receptive they are - nevertheless, it's them who do any enforcement. Doesn't necessarily mean you'll get any cheap rolls though.
