Don't the terms of the (pre-existing) GFA make the WA / backstop constructively illegal?

No - the terms of the GFA have nothing to do with Brexit

It is more the spirit of the GFA than the actual terms

I'm not so sure even Boris believes Boris. There is more certainty, in that things are going to be bad, but we don't have any idea what kind of bad, how bad or when.

He's already talking about staying in the CU/SM for another 2 years if the EU drops the backstop. He's already trying to soften people up for betrayal.

As said, he's committing to upholding the GFA, the US are pressing on him to uphold the GFA, and there's no way to do that from outside a customs union.

There is more certainty that the uk will leave on the 31st than before when some were still wondering if we will leave.

As to what happens after, yes that is perhaps even more uncertain

Do you not think it’s certain the opposition will call a vote of no confidence? The result is not certain, but I can’t see how anything is certain.

I'm not sure there's any certainty that we'll leave on the 31st, though there is more concern we'll crash out. It's become more likely to happen but I don't think it's a certainty.

Just as well what happens after we leave isn't important then, eh?

    That's why I said "constructively".

If the UK has an agreement in place with the Irish Republic that predates Brexit and with whose terms the WA and backstop are incompatible, the latter are constructively illegal since they place both parties in breach of its terms.

Has this county ever seen such uncertainty and chaos since the wars?
  • At least we had some certainty since Boris got in

Now the uncertainty has indeed been extended yet again

Here we go again, just like Mays deal uncertainty all over again

Now the uncertainty has indeed been extended yet again

Seems the uncertainty has indeed been extended even more

This is going to be very very bad for the economy and for property prices long term
The thing about chaos is, it's fair.

Depends on the outcome. The PM's tactics are at fault here, he is trying to force parliament to sign up for something they haven't had time to read and understand.
