I’ve often scanned too many times on an item and had to go back a few days later to get a refund.

Can't be that easy if you keep getting it wrong.

It may be quicker at the time but what about the time wasted going back for a refund.

I’m an ex Tesco employee. So I’m very friendly and known by the staff where I shop.
The checks are purely random but if you do get stopped for a check, they should only scan half a dozen of your items. Not your complete shop. On average, you get checked once for every six or so times you shop. If you normally buy loads of items and only buy a few things you will be checked because you have broken your normal pattern.
I’ve often scanned too many times on an item and had to go back a few days later to get a refund. Customer services have never queried this me and have been happy to oblige.
If you have a clear conscience then it’s really much quicker and easier to use than the main checkouts.

So what is your advice to the op who had his whole shop rescanned?
Don't expect to get a reply to this troll btw

I’ve also had my whole shop scanned. It crossed my mind that it wasn’t random. So what? It’s happened once out of hundreds of shops. I didn’t feel embarrassed or humiliated and didn’t spare a thought about what other customers were thinking. I imagine there were too busy with their own stuff to pay much attention to me.

I self scan (in all supermarkets that offer it) and if I get a check I accept it. If it's the whole shop then so be it, but I would rather that than the prices go up because they aren't checking and the thieving shoppers are winning.

If you are time strapped go to a checkout or self checkout. If you want to pack, then take your bags and do it at the end...

We shop in Waitrose with the self scan. We’ve done it for years and never had a check. Suddenly since Christmas nearly all our scans have been checked. We complained as this is not random.

When Waitrose staff do a rescan they don’t know whether there were any mistakes, this information is only available to the head office.

One of the members of staff had a look at our shopping record and it turned out that we had not scanned the free newspaper once and it was flagged up as an error (OH said he didn’t realise you had to scan it because it was free :rotfl:) so we get loads of checks.

We now use my Waitrose card instead of his and haven’t been checked once.
