Someone Parking in our space

I mean, if you don't use the parking space and there is nothing to indicate it's yours then I feel like you're creating a lot of stress and work for yourself in seeking to police it. I would definitely mark and label my bay as a minimum.
I explicitly tell my visitors to not park in my neighbours bays and to use the visitor one and I would say 70% of the time they still use my neighbours unmarked bay.
we have two cars, so we would and have been using it daily, I got home later than usual on Monday and it was taken. I think we'll have to look into marking the bay or putting up a notice of some description.0 -
I do not think you can really complain if it is not marked out.
But having said that you may still get people parking there.
Our daughters's boyfriend has a marked space for his flat and people are always parking there.
On one occasion when he confronted them they did not even say sorry just said there was nowhere else to park!0 -
What about getting one of those lockable bollards that fold down or can be removed?0

If it's not marked it may well be an honest mistake from someone who doesn't realise it's private. Is it always the same car?
You may well think that if they have a property there too and that comes with a space in the carpark then they should know, but
- they may be a tenant whose landlord didn't care to explain it properly,
- they may be a visitor whose host hasn't explained that spaces are private or doesn't know they're parking there,
- they may be parking in what they think is their own space, having miscalculated, if the bays aren't marked out at all,
- they may be a numpty.
Don't jump straight to installing bollards (which will inconvenience you if you have to take them up and down every time you park/leave) and certainly not to anything retaliatory like trying to block their car in. These may be options but the first port of call whenever you have a problem with someone's behaviour is to ask them to stop. It may get results, or it may not, but if it doesn't what have you lost by trying?
Leave a short, friendly note under the wiper saying that the space is privately owned/reserved and you need to use it regularly (make sure to say you do use it, so they're not under the impression you want them out of it purely because it's yours.) I recommend signing your first name if you're comfortable with it, as it can come across passive-aggressive to leave anonymous notes: however justified you are, you'll get better results if you take care to avoid putting anyone's back up.
If that doesn't work, then you try the other options, starting with the least inconvenient to you (like putting up a private/reserved notice) and working up.0 -
Is the parking lot itself marked as private, so public and visitors know.
Putting your number on it is a must.0 -
Thanks guys, my husband managed to get the spot when he got home this evening, but will probably go with a note if it happens again.
The parking lot itself isn't marked as private, however, it's at the end of a cut-de-sac, and basically a location where if you weren't going to one of the houses you wouldn't venture there. Anywhoo, will see how it goes, and start with a note - I definitely don't want to start any issues with neighbours because as far as issues go this is very minor due to the extra parking available.0 -
Not marked, then i would assume free for all.0

If its not marked how would anyone know its not available to them? I wouldn't view this as an aggressive act, just someone unknowingly parking where they shouldn't.
Mark the space in the same way others have.0 -
Round my way, if the farmers want to stop parking on access to fields, gates, etc., they hire someone to bring in big lumps of rock which require machinery to lift them, and place them so's folk cannot park.
Find something which will be immovable, hire someone with a small crane or similar to place it on your space; assuming you don't actually need to park there yourself!

It seems a bit of a con to sell you a house with a parking bay that can't be identified as yours and isn't even marked as a parking space. If you needed your deeds to work out where your parking bay was visitors to the area won't be aware it is yours. I would paint the number of your house in the ground of the bay. I would also either mark it out or speak to the management company about having all the bays marked out.0
