Is it legal to cover your number plate?

Is it legal to be scammed in a supermarket, seems like it ??

PRIVATE LAND ...... a piece of card cut to size using bluetack
OR, a pair of knickers with two fingers showing, try E-Bay

Make sure you quickly remove when on the public highway

Has to be done on entry and exit ..... as the vicar said ?

Do you think I'd suggest a criminal offence?! Absolutely not, I wouldn't.

In my opinion, you don't have to show your personal data to scammers. But we don't condone not paying a reasonable fee to park and have never posted or suggested anything like that.

You can keep your car on your own or someone's driveway (or in a car park to which you are invited) with the numberplates missing - e.g. if working on the vehicle - and you can cover your car too as many people do in the Winter.  All perfectly legal.

  • Thank you to all the experts on here . I had 5 charge notices from Highview re Tesco Woolwich. I appealed and they have cancelled them all within a couple of days. I wasn't the driver and didn't tell them who was.

I quoted POFA , 2 were out of date for sending plus the notice hadn't followed POFA. Also they still had the old machines showing a message saying no need to use today. Finally their signage was really poor and I told them I would write to Tesco and my MP.

Thks again to the help from these forums .

Brilliant result, especially with multiple tickets - 5 monkeys off your back. Well done.

Carry out that threat, especially writing to your MP.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Write bad stuff on their website and Facebook pages. If you are a shareholder raise the matter at their AGM, complain to your MPN, shop elsewhere.

On 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these private parking companies. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, and persistent offenders denied access. Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers.

Until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

An owner has recieved Highview Parking fine notice today stating car registration on Tesco land in at 13.03 out at 18.17.
Date of this notice 02/07/19 but only revcieved today 13/07/19-with deadline for reduced payment being 16/7/19.
The owner was working that day-therefore would not be parked on that land for any amount of time (times can be verified from place of work), visited Tesco to make a cash withdrawal-shown on online banking, & also had a blood donating appointment which was attended at 16.35 for approximately 1 hour at a location away from this claim with its own parking, therefore no way the owner was parked on that land for the 5 hrs 41 mins stated.
Evidence of other movements that day cannot be sourced until Monday 15th 9am at owner place of work.
How it is best to aaproach this obviously false claim??

None of it matters. Submit the template appeal you saw in the NEWBIES thread, and DO NOT choose 'I was the driver' on Highview's website.

They will cancel when they see the template appeal (NOT MSE's OFFICIAL ONE).
