Hi everyone!! I remember when I was young I assumed I’d be married own a home and have children by 30-40..unfortunately not true. Not all bad though, I have a loving partner and 2 children .......and a horrid online slot gambling addiction. I had debt way before the gambling started which I had under control with a DMP, have had these debts so long the defaults don’t show anymore. But unfortunately new debts occur when you gamble. I have majority of these included in my DMP and have 3 more to sort. I also have a revolving line of credit, which is just doing that revolving. Writing this diary so I can keep on top of things and watch that debt disappear. Thanks in advance any help would be great x

Can’t stop thinking about money ...it’s the gambler in me and the fact I want to get rid of my debt. It’s payday soon and that’s when I will begin my debt free journey.0

Was up til late last night reading diaries and getting inspiration!! Feel more positive today. Got so many plans in my head I feel like I’m going to pop!! Need to do SOA but need to get through this bank holiday first. The problem for me is I THINK it’s payday this Saturday as payday is Tuesday 23rd but due to bank holiday I think the funds will be available on Sat. Now, knowing I gamble I set up all my half of the bills and self managed DMP payments to go out on payday, however on weekends like that this I get paid earlier which is a gamblers paradise (just £20 I think, which can easily turn into £200/£400). I always transfer £400 to my partner who drip feeds it me back throughout the month (he knows I had an addiction and this was put in place so I wouldn’t waste it), however I’ve continued to gamble and have used money meant for my half of bills. Therefore in arrears with council tax 18/19 and gas and electricity. So if I can not gamble I can pay all my priority bills and money towards arrears and still make DMP payments.
So in my head all I have to do is sign up to GAMSTOP and that will stop me from being able to gamble online....I have the website on my other screen awaiting my details...please give me he strength to complete the form...0 -
Here to, hopefully, offer you strength. I am the daughter of a compulsive gambler who married the son of a compulsive gambler! Both of us grew up with very little, none of the "nice" things all our piers owned. We both survived it but, even though we both loved our fathers dearly, would have given anything for life to be different. Neither my mother nor my mother-in-law had anything until after these two men died.
I believe you can bar yourself from these sites. Make that your first job today. Then find a picture or pictures of your family and put them where you will see them. Desk fridge etc. Do this for them. Good luck with this, keep coming back on here. We are a friendly bunch and everyone will be behind you all the way, M2m.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.0 -
M2m....I cried at your response...please don’t take that the wrong way...it was the push I needed! I know my children have gone without due to my addiction. I’ve done it...I’ve signed up to GAMSTOP!! Goodbye Mr Gamble....off you go...tatty bye byes....ta-la!!
I know people maybe thinking why am I not on a gambling forum doing this...I have used a well known one before...however I think I used it as a crutch and a secret way to continue not to feel that I really needed to stop as I’d use others stories to tell myself I’m not as bad as them, I haven’t stolen, put physical money in a machine etc. Truth is we’re all the same, just do it in different forms. So again thank you M2m you have changed my future.
Now whilst checking my email to confirm that I was registered, I noticed an email from a payday loan lender saying I may be entitled to a refund...form completed.
And with a new found energy to get my debts cleared I’ve listed some bits on a few selling sites...fingers crossed I can make some money and put towards my debt....let a journey begin x0 -
Thank you, I'm glad it helped. Here's to the start of the rest of your life. Things can only get better from now on, M2m.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.0

Ooooooh I’m so excited about payday and not being able to gamble!! Usually it’s pay day panic for me. Already sold something on a 2nd hand selling site, will post today. I’ve got the bug. Daughters stash of old clothes have come out of the cupboard. Will attempt to sell these too. Future feels bright. I have £50 left til payday which is either Sat or Tuesday. Need to top the food shopping, budgeting £10 for that, birthday present £10 for that. Anything left over from this £50 I will put towards my smallest debt which is £19. Feeling good0
