As highlighted already:
You still have the recording - you just don't have a live subscription to watch it after your contract ends.
I can deffo tell the difference between HD & SD.
As I have a surround sound system the audio is also almost always better on HD channels. Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -

Not if you are blind ;-) (or sit to far, to small a screen, blah blah etc).
I wear glasses. HDR UHD is so much better that HD. Even more of an increase that SD -> HD (it was only a massive increase in "NTSC" places). Probably even more a great increase than OLD SD to OLD HD ;-) (that was in the 60s by the way, no I was not there).0 -

When you say UHD is not a huge step up in quality then it depends on what equipment and what source your using to watch the UHD.
You could have seen a budget UHD which cost around £500 streaming a compressed UHD video over the internet and not see much quality difference.
But then compare that to a top end OLED TV with a top end dedicated blu-ray player playing a UHD blu-ray and there will be a big difference from the budget setup.
You may have a top end setup but most people see UHD the "budget" way so I'm not surprised they arn't that impressed.0 -

I had this issue with Virgin (TiVo) when I reduced packages, the recorded shows became unplayable if I no longer had the channel. Better yet, when they recently renumbered their channels I had a similar issue, as the different channel numbers stopped me viewing the stored channel programme.
As for it being unfair - sure it is, but so is life. Think of it as regaining some of it again! The fact you had paid for the show/channel when originally recorded is a reasonable argument, but they see it as revenue protection.0 -
It's perfectly legal: your sub licences to you the software which is necessary to decrypt the recordings. Once your sub ceases, you can no longer view the recordings without that software. They aren't deleted, they're just not viewable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
