if you have an mot booked at a separate garage it is legal to drive your car to the new garage but only if that is your only journey, so no stopping off at home first etc.

I got a taxi home, will be getting a taxi to collect it also. I did think they may have damaged something but they swear blind they’re just “really busy” I’m going to call them again now, if I take it elsewhere to be mot’d are they going to want to be paid for the £55 mot that they failed even though I bought it in with them fully aware the 2 bulbs had blown and had asked when i booked in for them to be replaced (even discussed prices for labour costs)
If they told me when it failed that this would be an issue I could have collected the car and took it back when convenient or elsewhere if not
  • Seems totally unreasonable to deny you your car for a week over two bulbs. If it were me I'd be needing it for work the next day so no way could I leave it there a week. Think you'll have to arrive first thing one morning and not leave until its done.

Call them and tell them a date you want it ready by, make it clear that it needs to be done by this date and ask what time you can collect it.

Don't let them set the deadlines or your car will always be the non-urgent job with their other jobs taking priority. You need to make your car the priority. No need to be ride, just be firm and give them a deadline.

    Outrageous IMO
How did it fail its MOT when you had booked it in to have the bulb issue dealt with prior to ?
To then keep the car for this length of time is clearly taking the "mick"

    *****UPDATE*****
So after not answering my calls all day yesterday, I called from my neighbours phone at about 4pm, they actually answered. Turns out is wasn’t even the bulbs and the connector wasn’t meeting the socket properly, 9.30am next day I get a call to say it’s all done and they’ve fixed the connection issue. It’s apparently a common issue with VW Beetles according to google
They’ve only charged £15 for the work due to delay.
Lesson learned... don’t go back and next mot, sit and wait for it to be done! Thanks all for your advice

Well, maybe there's stuff to be moved to get to the connector to be able to push it back on properly.

Yes they had to remove the battery and tray to access it and adapt the holder slightly. Plus change the bulbs and adjust the aim. I’m happy to pay the £15 tbh
