Rights with a defective phone - Vodafone contract

Hi, just wondering what my rights are with my phone. I've been a Vodafone contract customer for several years and before that a PAYG customer.

Last October/November time as my contract was coming to an end, I upgraded to a Huawei Mate 20 Pro on a new contract.

I've had several problems with the phone, including the common green screen (which gets really bad when the phone is used a lot), the finger print scanner not working and not being able to access the ? and ! keys on the keypad.

I've made one contact with the live chat about this and they said take it to the store and they'll look at it.

I'm just wondering if I'm within my rights to say that it's defective and get out of the contract? I think there's quite a few issues coming to light with this phone. My ideal would be to get a new contract with Vodafone on a decent phone. Will this be possible?

Thanks

If you are suffering green screen then contact Huawei direct.
Surprised any of the screens are still around. Use the Device HW app to check if you have LG or BOE screen.
I got mine at launch and they were already replacing stock with LG screens (which I got)
A faulty phone doesnt 'get you out of the contract'

Edit. the scanner and keyboard issues dont happen to me except occasionally if my skin is dry at work, as I have a scar on my thumb that seems to get too prominent for the scanner.
I use Swiftkey keyboard. Cant recall if that is OE on the Mate 20. What do you use?

Hi custardy, thanks so much for your response. You said a lot of things I don't understand. I downloaded the device app and it says the screen is synaltics-LAYA171020-LG-01-18-10-51. Is that bad? I use the keyboard that was installed when I got it and yes it says SwiftKey.

As you might guess I know nothing about phones!

yup,so you got the early screen. contact Huawei direct.
They were swapping out handsets with these screens.

to access ? and ! you have 2 options

hit the '123' button to access to secondary keyboard with symbols.
or hold on the fullstop button on the main keyboard and then swipe up in one move to select !, or ?

No, but under the Consumer Rights Act Vodafone, as a supplier of the phone, has to repair or replace the phone - Consumer Rights

However, knowing Vodafone, it's easier to deal with Huawei under their warranty.

As you have a faulty phone you should be able to get Vodafone to sort you out with a properly working phone. However, as the airtime contract will work with any phone you won't have any right to get out of what you signed up for. All you could hope for there is that Vodafone feel generous when you ask.
