Been with BT for over 18 years for broadband and for over 30 years for line rental.
BT has far too many times increased tariffs for line rent and broadband in the middle of a contract. Both fees are increased in the middle of my 24 month contract!!
My present monthly payment £58.99 for line rent with week end free calls and Super Fast 2 (up to 72mbps) Broadband.
Why loyal customers are never been encouraged to stay on with the present provider?
I see few ISP providing the same for far less monthly payment.
My questions are
1. Do I have to obtain MAC code for transfer broadband?
2. Could I retain my present land line telephone number if my new ISP provides
Landline and Broadband.
3.Will I have to pay any severance payment to BT?(BT my line annual rental payment had been paid for a year in advance in April 2018..and my present Broadband contract runs until middle of June 2019)

1. There has been no need for a MAC for several years now. When you sign up for a new ISP they will inform your current ISP (only exception being when leaving cable providers like Virgin where you must tell the out going cable company yourself)
2. The new company will try to transfer in your phone number if you ask but there are no 100% guarantees.
3. If you are within a minimum term contract (as you say you are) then you would have to pay early termination fees to leave early. (The exception is when they notify you of a price increase which gives you 1 month to tell them you wish to leave and to start a transfer away)0 -

Thanks for that information.
My line rental paid in advance for a year, will end at the end of April 2019.
The broadband contract goes up to 12 June 2019.
I will have to look for perhaps through cash back sites to a new ISP...and in such a manner hopefully offset part of my early contract termination fee.
It is so one sided in these scenarios, such we the customers are not allowed to change our contract but the company changes the conditions and give only a month to leave or you have to pay a severance pay.
I am with BT since 1996!! And joined BT again when broadband become available....
Oh well the loyalty does not take you anywhere.... I know Mr Martin keep telling to Chuck a company and not to feel bad...

Be careful to read the BT T&Cs to see exactly what the early termination fees are.
Are they just for FTTC or will you need to pay something back for the BT Smart Hub (if you got a new one as a condition of the 24month contract then BT may expect some cash from you)
It maybe cheaper to stay until June, just ensure that your line rental doesn't renew for a year but that you pay per month after April.0 -
Leaving within. 30 days of an increase notification is the way to do it.
Don’t agree to any free things like calls as this will renew contract.
Line rental saver may run at different time to min contract end
I would recommend now tv. £25 !
Or EE if you want to stay within bt group0 -
Personally i would pay the line rental monthly after ALR ends for the couple of months .
Then cancel BB and line rental .
As to the in contract price rises most MSE users find they are a means of reducing prices .Cancel and they offer a better deal .
PS New contracts are now heading down the route of includine a rise as per inflation every year .
<The monthly price for your broadband plan will increase each year from March 2020 by the rate of inflation (the Consumer Price Index rate, published in January each year ?

Thanks for the suggestion.
@EE The same as I got at present is marked as £31.00. That is I see it as without line rental. I conclude from your post that I will stay with BT for line rental and the combined cost will be about £49.99.
Mm...
I just looked at Pulsenet where same speed including line rental seems to suggest £26.99 until end of this month. That is no use to me of course. After having read all your inputs and knowledge.
Thanks again0 -

Switch to Now Broadband and have lost old number0 -
You might, but the OP implied that they wanted to retain their telephone number yet Now TV is unable to honour such requests:
Switch to Now Broadband and have lost old number
I saw that too. I would be specifically asking my intended ISP about me retaining the landline number. Though I hardly ever use the landline, it is registered with my bank, work ,friends and family..It will be too much of an effort to inform all.
As I mentioned in my first post, my time with BT line is over 22 years and it has come to time to follow Money Martin advice:money:0 -
If your number is very important ok.
NowTV transfered my number from virgin. Impressive!
Line rental is no longer. It should be included in the price now0 -

I would do a search for number portability issues with certain company's, there is a current thread from a poster that asked the new ISP, time and again, 'will I keep my number' received assurances that they would , and then was given a different number , and after the poster complained was pretty much told 'nothing we can do' , in that case it was an elderly relatives line they had migrated and it is causing much distress to that relative.
You could see if BT will offer you a deal, there are plenty of BT customers paying considerably less than you for the same products, you could argue that you shouldn't have to ask for a discount and that the 'regular' price should be competitive ( I would agree with you ) , but it's the world we live in.
If you are determined to leave, and the phone number is important I would research the company's you are considering joining , if it's a cheap price you are after, they may be cheap for a reason
There is a provider ( being recommended ) offering a deal for £25, but you would need to check if it's the lower speed or higher speed product ( especially if you get better than 40Mb currently) , and in that case it's 18 month minimum term, the price then goes up to the regular price of £36 , albeit with anything calls, so even the headline grabbing price company's put the price up if you don't negotiate when 'out of contract'0
