HELP with unique accident

Hello,
I was recently a witness to a friend who had an accident.
Along a narrow residential road, there were temporary lights - you know how this goes - one side of traffic waits at the red light, the other goes through at the green.
I was behind my friends car, My friend had a collision with a car coming from the opposite direction. However, as I was right behind my friend, I witnessed that the lights were green, and the lights were green for me too hence we drove through.
The collision happened in between the temporary lights. On the side we were coming from it was GREEN. When the accident happened, I asked the driver if the lights were red, amber or green on his side, and he answered "I do not know it happened fast".
It is important to note that this driver was a cab driver, with passengers in the car.
When asking the passengers if the lights were red, amber or green on their end, they said that they also did not know - maybe because they did not want to be witnesses.
All that I know is that the lights were green for us.
Could it be that temporary lights are faulty?? And in this case, who is at fault during the accident?

Did the Cab driver have a Dash cam? Most of them do these daysThose who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000

It's impossible for traffic lights to show green on both sides. If there is an error, they shut down.0

No, he did not0

Impossible? So the taxi driver was at fault then. But how is this proved without any survellence or video evidence. The only evidence there is is me who witnessed the green light.0 -

Did you have a dashcam? An independent witness? 50/50 I can see it going.0 -
I’m sure it’s not unique - I bet it’s happened before.
Go and buy a dashcam - this will likely go 50/50 without evidence0 -
Green doesn't mean go. Green means "you may go on if the way is clear." So the fact your light was green won't automatically absolve your friend of liability. \
I expect this will go 50/50 because you were between the lights, not at the other end. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
As above, probably 50:50. We weren't there to see, but you don't have to crash into someone simply because they are coming towards you, there could have been avoiding action either party could take, or they could even have stopped. Most likely the other driver went through on red as he "can't remember" what colour they are- he'd be adamant they were green if it were the case.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Why? What possible difference does it make?Helpmelord wrote: »Hello,

Tarambor is correct. Both parties are at fault because they did not observe the road ahead. Dashcam footage would not improve your friend's changes of changing the outcome one iota. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
