Idiot delivery company!

Let me explain.
By our front door we have a black wheelie bin for general waste, a blue one for recycling, a caddy for food waste and an old green box that used to be for recycling but was replaced by the blue wheelie. We've kept the green box because sometimes it's quite handy to have.
Yesterday, while returning the blue wheelie after a collection, I noticed the lid of the green box was askew. I looked inside and there was a "failed delivery" card from DPD. All it said was "Left with neighbour", nothing else. No house number, no date, nothing.
We get on well with all or immediate neighbours and no one knows anything about it. And my wife is not aware of anything she's ordered that she hasn't received (but she could be mistaken!).
The card could have been there some time as I can't remember the last time I opened the green box. And what kind of stupid f****r would have left it there rather than put it through the letter box! It takes less effort to put it through the door rather than in the green box.
I'm a bit concerned my wife may have paid for something we've never received.
Any suggestions as to next steps? I'm aware that we don't have a contractual relationship with DPD and they may not be helpful, but as we don't know what the item (if any) was, we don't know who the retailer was.
Any ideas?

Get a less forgetful wife?Manxman_in_exile wrote: »I'm a bit concerned my wife may have paid for something we've never received.

Surely you can have a look at your statements and figure out what you've paid for recently?0 -
Get a less forgetful wife? The logical part of me agrees, but I love her and she apparently loves me! She is the most forgetful person I know.
Surely you can have a look at your statements and figure out what you've paid for recently? That assumes she can find her statements!
My wife is a solicitor and has a pretty stressful job. To make matters worse I've been ill for the last year and my condition deteriorated a couple of months ago. She had to look after me and my "house organisation" was neglected. Then my GP had me admitted to hospital as a medical emergency and I only got out last week (six night stay). I'm well now and trying to clear the backlog of stuff I've been neglecting. It's a nightmare!
EDIT: Also, my MiL died last year after a particularly lengthy and distressing illness. My wife is still not fully over that and she's also been worried about my health. She's had a very bad year.0 -
Is the card dated at all?
If not, is it possible that it has been in the box since the last time you used it for recycling years ago, and the card was put into the box for recycling after the parcel was collected/delivered?:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Contact DPD then, that's your only option. Presumably the address should be searchable on their systems.0

Thanks. No date - just "Left with neighbour" and no house number. And yes, it could have been in there for some time. Ironically, the last time I remember opening the box was when we had a failed delivery card through the letter box and it said "Item left in your green box"! That was before Christmas.0 -

I thought that would be our only option as we don't know what the item (if any) was and we don't know the retailer.
Any idea what part of DPD we need to contact? Customer services? Excuse my ignorance, but we've not previously had any delivery mishaps.0 -
The card may have been meant for someone else . .0

She can get copies, or go online, or check her accounts with likely retailers. This isn't rocket science, and it's going to be more conclusive than hoping DPD have a clue what the parcel was.Manxman_in_exile wrote: »That assumes she can find her statements!0 -
Is there not a tracking number on the card?
Use that to track the parcel, and then you can see its journey, might give you an idea.
Plus it will tell you if it is a new parcel or old.
Assuming there is a tracking number there though.0 -

Never had to contact them myself either but both phone number and online contact form(it says email) are here:
