Hi All,
Apologies if i have posted in the wrong place and this might be long!
A brief background, a few years ago after a relationship breakdown and losing my job i got myself into £17k worth of debt, i defaulted on all bills after ignoring the problem, i am pleased to say that i am now paying well above the minimum payments on all but one debt (a Credit card) and and have almost cleared them. final payments will be may
My problem is, because one of my debts haven't been in touch after i moved in December 2017 (i didn't tell any of them) i continued to ignore and just paid all the debts that did find me. now my debt is almost clear i want to pay the one remaining debt. my credit rating is in pieces so i haven't bothered to check it as i know i can't borrow for 6 years. i don't know if a CCJ has been issued against me for the debt i haven't paid, if it has, how do i go about paying it back? Can i do it in installments or does it have to be the full amount? do i contact them or the court?
I still need to put my big girl pants on and actually check my credit file but was going to wait until May when all but one are marked as satisfied and i can offer a high monthly payment.
i know i haven't been very responsible and i know my credit file wont be repaired until 6 years after the default/CCJ was issued
thanks for reading and sorry if this has been done to death!

You'll see any CCJs on your credit files (check all three). The court will have any details of the judgement.
You'll be able to borrow before 6 years, so make sure you take the opportunity to start build some credit history in the meantime. When the time is right, apply for a sub prime credit card.0 -

All CCJ's and outstanding debts SHOULD be reflected in one of your Credit files somewhere, Be it Experian,Equifax or one of the side gigs like noddle, clearscore etc, It will be reflected somewhere.
As stated above, I was in a similar situation, although only around £7-8k , I cleared it within the space of about 6 months starting from february 2018, multiple defaults and missed payments, no CCJ's , though.
October 2018 was when all my debt was finally cleared, I held no hope for any sort of credit for at least 6 years either, But in december of 2018, I was offered a credit card by BarclayCard, which I accepted with a limit of £1200, received it early january, I pay it off in full each month (2 months so far), And recently , Last week to be exact, my bank offered me a loan of up to £5000, and a Credit card with a £3000 limit.
Moral of the story, my repayment history was at its worst, my credit file on experian was something like 18 in july(No joke), but i'm now getting credit offers left right and centre, all be it sub prime lenders , Appart from my bank, it is still credit offers.0 -

Yes you could just jump back on the banks easy credit bandwaggon, that comes with the slogan :
"when you need money, we don`t want to know, when you don`t, we`ll throw it at you"
Or you could do what i do, stop playing the credit game altogether, save for the things you want, live within your means, the idea we must all adhere to what the banks and credit industry tell us is ludicrous.
Of course it depends what stage of life you are at, if you are going to need a mortgage in the near future, then opting back into the ratrace is oblgatory, but i for one don`t` like being dictated too over what some stranger thinks i should or should not be entitled to do or spend.
We`ve all got so used to our credit cards, and PCP agreements which allow us to drive massivly expencive cars we could never afford normally, we simply do not live within our means, and thats why we all owe so much debt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I had serious debt issues many years ago. I didn’t even consider getting any form of credit for over 5 years. I did get a credit card eventually to build up a good file for a mortgage.
I use rewards cards now and I’ve done well out of them. I learnt a very hard lesson. Apart from a mortgage I don’t owe anything. If I’ve not got the money I don’t buy it. I only spend what I have.0 -
Hi All,
Thanks for your responses. So i put my big girl pants on and checked my credit files, its bad, really bad! I was issued a CCJ in April 2018 for about £4k, My own fault for letting it get this far but at one time i couldn't even afford milk so we are where we are! Luckily i don't need credit for the foreseeable future, i just want to repay when i borrowed.
I don't have the money to pay it in full so i guess my next step is to get in touch with them and see if they will let me pay in installments? What if they refuse? Ahh man, what a mess! i want to cry0 -
Sorry to be a pain! but i really need help!
i spoke with national debt helpine who advised me to contact the court and find out more about the CCJ, i spent £2.50 to obtain the details and contacted the court, they told me an application for attachment of earnings had been requested and gave me another number, spent an hour of constant ringing so i decided to call the people i think have the debt, they do and put me on to their solictor, he then tells me that they have an attachment of earnings request and i have to contact the court to obtain an N56 form because they cant agree to any payment plan while its with the court, fine, so i call the number he gave me and its the wrong department.....argh!!!! breathe.......He was lovely, told me to fill in an N56 form, send it tomorrow as recorded delivery and wait
an attachment to earnings will absolutely ruin me, all arrangements to pay will not be taken into account because I haven't defended my case but the form is ridiculous! so 2 of my debts are 497 next month but that's the last payments but the form doesn't ask how long the arrangements are for! so technically I have £315 spare cash each month but because of 2 of my debts drop off I will actually have £812 spare. where the form says per, do i say total? and why is it asking for partners income? its a personal debt!
Sorry, i am very emotional and just want to stay repaying what i owe!!0 -
You need to supply the attachment of earnings and fill in all the requested sections.
As this is with the court it’s much more serious than some two-bit collection agency0 -
There is nothing you can do tonight. If I were you, I would try and relax this evening, take deep breathes and have a good night's sleep. An attachment of earnings is not the end of the world. The debt is 4K and you will shortly have £800ish/month to throw at this final debt, so it should not take too long to repay. Why are you saying an attachment of earnings "will absolutely ruin you"?
First thing in the morning, you can ring National Debtline for advice, support and guidance. There are always solutions.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
Hey Gary
I know it's serious which is why i am trying to get it sorted but the N56 form is so basic compared to other income and expenditure forms I have done in the past. I will technically have £815 spare in may but until then I only have 315 after everything is paid. I can't get through to the court on any of the numbers I have been given :-(0 -
Hi William
Thanks. I spoke to them before I knew about the attachment of earnings and it will ruin me because I haven't defended my case and therefore the courts don't know about my other outgoings. You are right thoufh, nothing i can do tonight so will try and speak to them all again tomorrow0
